Default WHY do you live where you do?

Gday, i was thinking about moving somewhere else oneday, where about? i dont know
i moved to Geelong cos i didnt like the Rat race of melboune suburbs. been a good move i reckon cos i am still only half an hour from where i work, Geelong is big enough to have any shop i will every be likely to need. and there is enough bussiness so that i reckon i should be able to find some work if My current job gets made redundant.

So why do you live where you do?
and do you plan to live there permanantly?
Dean

Coffs harbour NSW - its in sub tropics, nice and warm all year round, nice beaches all around, under 80k people in the area, so nice and cruisey, only prob is unemployment is high. under 4 hours drive to brissi, under 6 to sydney.
I came here with the family as a kid, bought my house here cheap which has trippled value, got married near 5 years ago, so planning to stay here for atleast another 10 years

Military sent me to Newcastle. I grew up in country Vic and spent first few years in Perth which I loved, can't wait to get back there, so laid back and the city is well laid out. Wife doesn't like having family on this side of the country and her being on the other but I guess being a guy it doesn't worry me.

Live in Canberra because I was born here. I don't ever plan on moving either. The only thing I don't like about here is there is no beach. Other than that it's perfect for me.

Moved out to the Barossa Valley here in SA in Feb. Came out here to be closer to the wife's work. She's a winemaker at St Hallett's . She sometimes does night shift over the vintage (Feb - May) and works roughly 70 hours a week during that time. I work in Adelaide, Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm, so it makes more sense for me to commute and to be close to her work.

Good things about where we are currently:
We are in walking distance to everything. Pub, shops, pub, sports, and the pub.
Great, laid back country atmosphere.
Plenty of wine and other alcoholic drinks around.

Cons: Takes me an hour and a half to get to work each day. I'm not too fussed as I drive for 20 mins and then get the train in to the city. Nice and relaxing, especially after a crap day at work.

We won't stay where we are forever as we are currently renting, but we will be staying in the Barossa region for quite some time.

I live where I do to get away from all the rat races...small town can't get any bigger than 28k at the moment is about 7k.

Couple of hours to Brisvegas..3/4 from Noosa but who wants to go there.

Its a fishing village called Tin Can Bay and its gods own country.

Townsville, moved here from overseas 7 years ago, finished school here, went to uni and now started my own company. i love the tropics, never really cold and i just love the layed back style. If i'd ever move, I would go somewhere there is snow, love it, wanna do skiing again, even if i'd do a job that would involve working in that area.

Canberra, I've lived in Melb, Syd & Country NSW and have to say that Canberra is the best mix of city & conveniance anywhere. I do a lot of travelling (2 weeks every month) and see a lot of country but it is always a relief to get off the plane in Canberra and have an easy drive home. I can live quite happily without a beach, the only thing I would change is the drought. Extremes in weather of -9 to 47deg keep up the variety!

Canberra must be the easiest place to exist I know.

Live in Dandenong Melbourne currently because the rent is fairly cheap and not too far from both my jobs. I'm looking at buying a unit and will probably buy in Dandenong/Noble Park area next year so I can afford it.

Born and raised here, parents also lived in this area.. I would like to move, but would be too hard for me I think. The friends (including my band) I have here i'm really close to, so I don't really see myself moving. It's a beautiful area, just starting to get built up which is a shame..

I was born here in the "South West Slopes" NSW & moved to Sydney in 1970 (got married to a city girl in 1978) eventually talked her into coming up here for a holiday in 1990 & stayed on my cousins farm for 6 days . When packing up to go back to Sydney , she found every excuse NOT to get in the car ( looked for baby's bottles / clothes / toys ) . On the way back home she said "I want to live up here" .

January 1991 , we moved here & we're here to stay , Mrs wouldn't move back to the city for "Quids" . You can walk around the streets at night , know 90% of people in town , fresh air , Kids walk to school (no worring about getting bashed) New Hospital , all the main shops . Don't miss the city at all . 3 1/2 hrs west of Campbelltown , 1 1/2 hrs to Canberra , close enough to "visit" Relo's for the day & come back home ( 6,500 ppl in town ).

IF the kids do anything wrong (which they haven't ) you soon hear about it , everyone looks out for each other , you don't get that in the city.... :

Couple of years ago , a friend & I bought an old house to rent out for the huge sum of $37.000 (1/4 acre blocks) . GOTTA love the country .

After spending nearly 3 years in Sydney, we went back to London for 18 months and decided to settle in Brisbane - my wife is from here, and we figured the lifestyle would be less stressful and we'd have a hope in hell of affording a nice house.

2 and a half years on, and I love it up here in Brisbane. The petrol's cheap, the weather's nice, there are lots of fantastic beaches nearby, and we were able to buy a house 4km from the CBD. Work can still be stressful, but that's life.

Had we settled in Sydney we'd still be out partying every night pouring our salaries down our throats at some overpriced bar in the city and getting stressed about the fact that we can only afford to buy a 2-bedroom unit in Penrith, despite the extra money we'd almost certainly be earning down there.

No contest, really. Out of the three possibilities of where we could've ended up (Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane), I'm very happy with our choice.

I live in Gungahlin on the north side of canberra and i love it. Its just far enough from the city to seem more like a big town and it is on the edge of the bush which is what i like cos im originally from the country. The area is groing aswell so soon we wont have to go to the city or belco to do shopping.

My reasons are the same as NormXB's. Small town where people matter is the best environment for kids to grow. Also the fact that we live out of town about 8k's on a property makes it an even better lifestyle for the kids ........

I have visited the city on a regular basis but would NEVER move back at all ..... NEVER :P

As farmers the problem of unemployment isnt a concern to us although the drought is a heartbreaker right now. Please pray for the rain gods to be nice on all of us country folk ........ there has been talk out here of families just walking ......... Thats a horrible thought ....... but one we deal with every day ...........

Wouldnt be anywhere else for "quids"

Hehehehe

Because i found a cheap rental in one of the most expensive suburbs in adelaide! Love SA living tho - cheap, easy, relaxing and HOT.

Also dont have to put up with the fairly large percentage of eastern staters who think they're too good for our state.

I grew up in the adelaide hills, now im in the foothills so its a good balance between city (15 minute drive) and the hills (15/20 minute drive). Perfect.

Been living in Newcastle (Raymond Terrace actually, which is a 20 minute drive away) all my life, basically.

When I was about 1, I lived on a farm, near Maitland, but yeah been living here for 19 years.

Next year I want a life style change and move to the Gold Coast, because I'm sick of it down here.

I live in Mildura, well actually Merbein, kinda live in between the two towns. When I was living with the folks we moved out of town a few K's, loved it, moved back into town and hated it, so when I moved out of course I headed out of town! Was born here and love it. Only thing I hate is the heat!

Mornington - moved closer to my ex husbands work and fell in love with the place so built a house. Was thinking of moving early last year, but wanted the stability for my little man so decided to stay put.
Will move next year though, sick of commuting to Richmond every day. Not sure where yet, when the right house at the right price comes up I will move, but I will keep my house in Mornington so I can maybe move back one day.

Living large on the Sunshine Coast. I'm based at Maroochydore.

I moved here in 1997 after leaving Melbourne and can't fault the place. Beach is 5 minutes up the road, weather is good 95% of the year, I can't fault the place.
