Default CUB Sucks!!!

Alright I'm sick of Carlton United Brewery dishing up bad beer. CUB used to be a good drop, then a few years ago I noticed I was getting the odd bad slab of stubbies. Smelled like rotten eggs.

This week I've bought three six packs of different CUB beers from three different stores and each one has been off. Last nights batch of crownies really broke the camels back. It has a really bad acidic smell and taste.

I vow to never buy CUB stubbies again. I'm going back to my roots, powers brewery all the way. Has anyone else had problems with the quality of CUB in recent times?

Man you must be the unluckiest person in the world, what could be worse than a beer gone bad. Never had a problem with good old CUB before but I do remember my uncle getting a bad Carlton cold, but that was because it was out of date.

I don't know of any problem's here with it from the carton. Although, the two local pubs and one club have on tap VB which, without fail, is nearly flat!!!

When I was in Victoria we'd have to return probably every third slab to the sundowner in Seaford. We'd give the bottlo one wiff and he'd give us our money back. Not sure if its how they store it or what. Maybe I should just get a keg!

Once you taste the better beers of Australia, like Coopers, Little Creatures, Matilda Bay, James Squire, and a few others, all the other more commercial brands all taste like watered down rubbish.

For a good experiment I learned a few years ago, spend a night on something such as VB (dont be shy to tuck in) and remember how you felt the next morning (with which you would want to forget in a hurry), then the next week do the same procedure with a more naturally brewed beer and see how much better you feel the next morning, not to mention the taste kicks the other out of the ballpark. I only have VB and the like if it's free now...lol

I use to not mind the taste of a cold crownie but not much anymore for a premium beer i think its heaps overated much prefer a boages or cascade premium for the same price by a long way.
Cant say i have ever had a CUB beer that was off though.

Totally agree. I used to hate Boages. A mate came over a few days ago with some tucked under his arm. To my surprise it went down really well...

Too true, nothing beats James Squire Golden Ale in the summer and Strong Ale in the winter.

All this talk of beer got me desperate so I went a cracked another of those crownies. To my surprise it tastes alright. I'll spend the night sorting out the good from the bad...

CUB have had dodgy quality control for at least 10 years. I havent bought a CUB product for at least that amount of time. I only drink James Boags now. In my opinion there is no better drop in Australia. Of course others wil have their own thoughts on this. But I am sure that most would agree that it is a brilliant beer.

Cheers, hic, all. :voldar02:

Beer can go like that if the temperature changes, mostly from Cold to Hot, then back to Cold. Bit strange for this to happen at 3 different stores though, unless there was a blanket power outage for more than 3 hours covering all stores???!!!
Talk to the store, and get in contact with the CUB sales rep for that area. They should sort something out.
Up in the NT, the beer always tastes different. Amazing what 2000klm on QLD roads can do to a beer! It always tastes better closer to the brewery of course!!!
When I sold beer, we used to keep it all in a room Air conditioned to about 25 degrees, we never had a drama, as we only sold hot beer.

Cheers

Drink Coopers beer - it improves as it gets older.

I drink Coldies, Tooheys Extra Dry, Draught on tap and Crownies when I'm feeling great.

Haven't ever come across bad beer?

You're not wrong. Cooper's Pale Ale is my preferred drop, Sparkling Ale isn't too bad either. The best part: no nasty hangovers.

I haven't bought a case of Carlton Cold, Crownies, VB (don't think I ever have), Pure Blondes etc in years. Who the hell pays 40 bucks for a case of crappy VB?? I'm still known to buy some of the stuff on tap when I'm out and drunk hehehe.

I stopped drinking Toohey's Extra Dry after the last two cases tasted off.

I rarely have trouble with tinnies. Although I have had bad VB tinnies before. They usually don't smell like rotten eggs but taste real acidic...

It's imported and distributed by Foster's. They don't make it here.

Alright, time for the Mods to shut this down, as a Queenslander, I am feeling very discriminated against XXXX is terrible stuff, but I'll take it anyday over the other commercial beers. But Ive never come across beer that has been off, am I one of the lucky ones?

I'll remember you said that while I'm sitting down this Wednesday, downing my wonderful (best beer on the planet) XXXX, watching NSW get smashed all over the field and scoreboard by QLD ;)

[edit]: not sure if you're from NSW or not :P If not, at least I made my point to those NSW anti-XXXX people ;)

Mate, hate to break it to ya.

CUB bought Power Brewing about 10 years ago!

The big Powers Brewery at Stapylton (QLD) is apparantly the largest CUB brewery they own!

Cheers, GO THE JIM BEAM!

Get in contact with CUB and make a complaint, you might get some freebies out of it and they might be able to sort the problem out. Beer tastes like crap after it has been cooled in the fridge and left to get warm and then put back in. When they are chilled they need to be left that way.
