Default Is the XR6T the new/future VLT

Hey guys not bashing here, but a few mates and I were discussing the fact a larger number of YOUNGER people are now getting around in the XR6 Turbo's, one of my mates made the comment that in about 2-6 years time, it will become the new VLT, meaning all the young (not) so cool P platers will be buying cheap XR6 Turbo's and fitting them with all the bull cr@p stuff we have come to expect from VL Turbo driving bogans..

DISCUSS....

It's possible but most state regulations won't allow P platers to drive them based on power to weight...

I don't think it'll make much difference. Teenage bogans always make their cars look like crap. The only difference is that XR6Ts will be a bit faster than the EAs that they buy now

id put money on it. which is probably exactly what ford want as hopefully when they get older they go out and buy new fords.

ford have created a ripper of a cult car in the xr6t, but i wouldnt be suprised if holden have a similar commodore varient with the ve is released.

Probably, just like the WRX was the car to have untill the insurance went through the roof.

XR6T's will become the 'CAR' to have, a few years away yet, but it will happen.

Give it a couple of years, it's inevitable...

Even though they're not legal for P-platers in Vic, that doesn't stop them... they'll probably just pull the Turbo badge off. Hell, as it is I've seen a couple of P-platers driving XR6Ts recently, XR8s too...

I reckon it will happen too.

Its a modern cult classic.

XR6T's are classied the same way as WRX's (for insurance and the like) in many cases as a Turbo Performance Car

Hands down it is going to happen. I knew it from the start.
No matter how unsavoury these VL/Future XR6T drivers are/Will be, this sort of following creates a fanbase for the car company that most clueless idiots will follow. In those age groups, the VL makes holden look "cool" because of its cheapness and ease of modifying.

The Ba XRt will be the same I beleive, but if a real cult car image and a reputation as the street car to have no matter how unsavoury the fanbase is gets ford recognised in future, then I could put up with that. Ford needs a sporty rep again.

Spot on - it's got a cult following already.

I think fuel availability/price may impact the younger generations choosing them as a 1st or 2nd car...

If Ford stopped right now building the Turbos then it would be so sought after you would have XT's with turbos cause they cant get one new anymore.
But seeing how it's going to be around for some time i think it wont have that same massive following as the VL turbo just because that was a car that was only around for a short time it not only had a following then but it's bigger now as holden don't have a turbo. Doesn't mean the XR6T doesn't have a cult following cause it does it's just it's available to buy anytime so that will hurt it down the track until it's stopped.
But if holden does turbo the VE then the years ahead will be great.

I think this will happen also but how knows what laws there will be for P platers in 2-6 years time, they might not be able to drive anything over a 4 cylinder...???

Just waiting for the day when we see XR6 Turbos getting around with P-plates up, stockies on the back, and the drivers seat leaning all the way back. In the driver's seat is some young bogan with his hat on backwards, who can hardly see over the steering wheel because of the angle of the seat. The stereo is cranked all the way up and his songs consist of huge amounts of bass.

Nah, seriously. I hope it never happens.

Despite all the crap that is associated with the XR6T becoming a cult car like the VL I think it is a good thing, hopefully get some of the younger bucks on board with the blue oval and away from GM. Start with a T, some mods and when they get older start buying the latest Ford has to offer. :sm_headba

The only thing I do hope is they don't fit the sprinkler system in the rear parcel shelf which seems mandatory for most VL drivers. :

Well technology has changed a little in 20 years since it was first released :

If i had room i could show you what a following is. Unfortunately my incredmail is on the blink and won't open in there is a wedding, And all the cars were VL turbos of some kind, Was a good sight. Now thats 20 years down the track and they are in show room condition.
Also i can't fit them in here at all to many to large.

The aftermarket 'speed' market today is a different kettle of fish.. The VL was the only turbo'd car that had any stick, they used Jap tech to make them go like the bullet they are, but today you can get aftermarket ECU's, cheap manifolds made and a plethora of turbos and accessories to suit any car.. Just because the factory releases a turbo car doesn't mean diddly squat to most owners, even less as the years tick buy an they become even cheaper.

I doubt the Xr6T will be anything special in years to come, the diversity of turbocharged cars one can build these days with out even picking up a spanner is too diverse.

i can't see it happening, i know lots of p platers that would love it.. i would've myself
but vicroads and the like are making it impossible to own them under 21, the only way to buy one in vic is in your parents name as vicroads won't register it in your name if you're under 21.
nsw has banned turbo's and v8'z ?

It will probably happen, , and will be disappointing to see the typical VL Turbo LOSER drive a falcon...

( it will be 40degrees in QLD and they will still have the windows down ! )

and they will still complain when they get pulled over by the police !

Ha

why do these tools complain when they get attention from the police?
look at the way thy drive, the cars they drive and when and where they drive...
i mean they drive to 6 grand in first, blowoff... they have the biggest, tackiest looking rims they can find with the loudest doof doof music they can find... stickers all over it...
and they cruise around the maccas lap routes, all night...
and wonder why they get this attention...
beats me...

I can tell you the official reason a certain police force bought turbos over XR8's was the resale value. They figure they'll hold there value as there will be a big market of young punks buying them second hand...

I agree, it will happen and when it does it will be a dark day 20inch rims, more gauges than you could poke a stick at, massive bov's, after market kits with fmics, clear tail lights , cannons it kinda makes you sick. I mean not all p platers are like that and for that matter all young people and there will be some that will get one and do it tastefully and look after it but sadly a good deal wont.
