The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is believed to have become pregnant on a drunken night out in Edinburgh.

She had a l ready left her secondary school near her home in West Lothian, where she was a first-year pupil, after a series of exclusions for fighting with other pupils.

She has been smoking since she was nine and drinking - sometimes a cocktail of Buckfast and vodka - since she 10-and-a-half.

The girl, who is due to give birth next month, told how she was drunk when she lost her virginity on the night out eight months ago.

She said: "We didn't use a condom but I didn't think about getting pregnant. I wasn't bothered at the time.

"I slept with him because I was drunk and because I wanted to. I don't regret it."

She added: "I can give up smoking any time but I don't find it affects my pregnancy.I also don't drink any more."

The girl said she thought she would be able to cope with a baby because she had lots of practice looking after her brothers and sisters.

She added: "I like feeling the baby kicking but the first time it moved I got a massive fright. I did not know what was happening until my mum explained it to me."

The girl's 34-year-old mother defended her daughter. She said: "I'm not ashamed of mydaughter - in fact I'm proud of her for keeping her baby."

The girl will be the youngest mum in Britain by a month when she gives birth - beating Jenny Teague, of Poole, Dorset, who was 12 years, nine months, when she had a daughter in 1997.

Anything under 18 is wrong IMO. I know happens, but you dont HAVE to have it.

She's 11. She smokes. She drinks. Has sex.

My parents would have beaten me with in an inch of my life if I had even looked at a cigarette the wrong way. Never mind drinking, or having sex at the age of 11.

And what's even better, is her mother [I'm guessing an uneducated social delinquent with as much class as a stamp] is proud of her. Yeah that's right, I'm proud of her parenting skills to! We can all be proud of failing! Oh I'm sorry, she didn't fail, she just didn't do very well. We can't use the word "fail", or kids will get a complex.

Also, she's smoking while pregnant, because she finds it doesn't affect her pregnancy? So she can "just tell" its not affecting the baby! That's amazing!

And she's given up alcohol? That's really good of her, anyone would think firstly a 11 year old can't handle alcohol. Secondly a pregnant 11yr old, who drinks whilst pregnant! Well guess what , I can "just tell" you're a ing moron!

I led a pretty wild childhood but I always took heed of the ethics and morals instilled into me by my parents. Along with the thread of a good hiding if caught ......

So because the babys mother was an 11 year old drunken whore the baby has no right to life?

Certainly the bubs deserves a chance but child services should step in at birth and take partial custody. No 11 year old is well adjusted enough to take care of a baby on her own. I would say take both children from the 11 year olds mother. There is something seriously wrong with that household...

Well this is utterly PHUKET UP.

She is 11-12 - What young girl has 20 ciggies a day, is looking forward to a baby, gets taken advanatage of by a 15yr old, sounds like a recluse, how does she know its not affecting the baby with the drinking and smoking SHE IS 11yrs. She should be thinking about barbie and The Veronicas, and not going out and getting boned.

Also her present family life sounds like a episode of springer. How can the mother be happy for her. It seems to me she was the one who couldnt put a chastity belt on the poor delusional 11yr old.

I agree with that completely, she is not fit to be a mother, but the baby should still have a chance at life.

IMO the girls mother should be dealt with by child services for letting her go out and get drunk at 11 years old.

How can a 15 year old be charged with rape due to the girl's age? If I'm not mistaken, the UK's age of consent is 16 years, so they were both very much underage. I don't care what anyone says, that's some unfair BS right there.

I'd have to agree there. This 15yr old kid is going to be branded a pedophile for the rest of his life. Remember being 15 he is still a child himself and no doubt is not pyschologically mature enough to know what he was doing, especially in a drunken state. I would think couselling would be more appropriate...

My daugher is 12. There is no way I would be proud of a daughter (or myself as a parent) if she was drinking, smoking, got pregnant and was having a baby - and smoking while having a baby at age 11. I would be very ashamed of her, but most of all ashamed of myself as a parent.

By no means am I the perfect parent - far from it. But that is just not being a parent at all... where the hell are the parents (didnt hear from her Dad did we?) if she is smoking, drinking and going out like that on a regular basis???? Do they just let her? And why does her mother not explain to her CHILD that smoking while pregnant IS bad, even though you cannot actually SEE your unborn child deforming itself through your womb?!

And for those of you worried about terminations... also consider the life of the girl who has the baby... it is actually quite dangerous for someone her age to actually carry a baby to term, as it does a lot of damage to her growing body which is not yet ready physically or hormonally for the whole thing, let alone her emotional state. And the baby would also be at risk. If my daughter came home at 11 and she was pregnant, I can be quite sure what my decision would be, thats for sure. Not pleasant, not ideal but perhaps the best choice from a really bad range of choices.

As for the 15 year old, Im not sure about that, but unless the minimum age is 15 over there, it wouldnt be statutory rape then... means that they are considering it rape on account of her being drunk, her age and her lack of ability to give consent (all of which apply to a rape case of any age female). I dont think anyone could argue that a drunk 11 year old has any real ability to consent to sex, and without legal consent, its rape. I do feel for the boy to a degree, but at 15, he would have had some idea what he was doing.
