Default Explosion in Adelaide's CBD (dial up warning)

The Jogger's World/JP coffee building on Pirie Street in Adelaide's business district has been victim to some sort of explosion. The area is chaos, building is on the verge of collapse. There is debris everywhere. Helicopters buzzing above, roads are closed, fire trucks and cherry pickers everywhere.

Some photos on my phone, just uploading onto the system now. Watch this space.

My Mum works in a building behind that one, on Grenfell St! I wonder if she heard it!

Rumours down on the street suggest otherwise - but they are only rumours.

Yeah the news is a bit slow with stuff..
just heard the business owner or one of the business owners vehicles is parked at the rear of the building and suspect he may have been inside at the time..

I hope he wasn't inside.. that's just a horrible thought...

Looks like one person is missing;

http://www.theage.com.au/news/nation...335701775.html

Hope he is ok but looking at the damage he will need a big dose of luck.

It occurred at 3 am which is why no persons (other than the suspected occupant of the cafe) were injured or worse.

Yeah apologies for my poor estimate of the time.

For out of towners - imagine an explosion sending debris across lonsdale st in melbourne or george st in sydney (sorry never been to brisbane, canberra, pert or hobart lol).

Had it been any later, there would have been a LOT of people hurt.

I must admit its a worry if a gas blast has that kind of impact. Must have been an enormous build up.

It's over the road from my building, my boss called me at 7am and told me not to come into work... yeah right! Was outside having a smoke when i snapped 'em.

They are suring up the face of the building... i imagine it will need to come down (leaning on 15 degree angle) but doubt they will want to do so until they locate the coffee shop owner.

That's a big blast! Could that happen from leaving a cooker on??????????
My union had its window smashed across the street. I think I'm going for a walk at lunchtime to take a look at the scene.

I wouldnt have thought there was anything deliberate at 3am, but I heard there was. Who knows?! Lets hope the cafe owner is in fact not dead!
