I've downloaded a movie from my digi cam in the highest quality that I could. Now when I get it ready to burn, it tells me that it is too big for a single layer dvd. What I want to know is how can I compress it enough to fit on a single layer. What is a program that most people use to do this. I tried to run it through through Dr Divx, but no luck.
The cost of a single layer is 70 cents and the dual is 10 times more expensive than that. This is why I want to convert to single layer. The movie is just some dubs from the baby movies which were on VHS. I've now converted it to AVI. Thats a far as I have gone. Thanks Dwayne |

It is DVDSHRINK, it's freeware. This is the homepage but due to U.S. laws, they can't host nor directly link to it on their site.
You can download it from here, also has a guide for using the software. Normally used for copying dual layer DVD's to a single layer DVD, but will do what you want, if you create the full DVD to your harddisk first.

Why is it that dual-layer dvd's cost so much, why don't they just price them twice the price of the single layer equivalent.

I have a version of DVD shrink and it didn't like the AVI Format. I just tested it and it's not happy with AVI.

hey Dwayne. I do a crap load of converting movies, burning, etc and have used so many programs to do this you wouldnt believe. The easiest program is called divx2dvd also known as convertx2dvd. All you do is select the movie you want to do, then hit convert and everything will be done including the burning of the disc. It even puts chapters in it.

DVD shrink is only for DVD files, either off a HDD or a DVD, it wont work with mpg, avi or anything else.....
