Default Attitudes to text lingo on forum

What do people think of text lingo on this forum. Personally I hate trying to decipher the jibberish. So fill in the poll and let me know.

Its a forum, its internet based and short hand is the emerging language of the internet.. I read an article re: teenagers and the MSN talk phenomen.

Sometimes it does get a bit much, more the acronyms I get lost with

It would have to be the most irritating thing to read in any post.
This is not like a phone where you try to fit as much as possible without as many letters...... nor is it MSN etc where its ok to shorten words.

I dont know how many times I have sat and tried to work out what on earth someone is saying just to give up because frankly I dont feel like getting irritated.

Is it that hard to spell correctly (or as close as possible)?

*hopping off soapbox now* lol

Don't like it at all on here. creates a horrible messed up untidy aspect to the English language

I have learnt to use edicate/punctuation while learning to express myself using a keyboard

I hate it and judge by it, i get the feeling the person is uneducated or lazy and take their posts with a grain of salt, i'm no english proffessor and spelling mistakes are fine, but some people refuse to have a go.

Ive grown up in the "lingo" era and it seems normal to me. I text message a lot, i also spend a lot of time on msn and this "lingo" saves time and i find it easy to read. I dont really use it (try not too) on this forum because everyone frowns upon it and judge you for using it so i stear away from it.

But i voted that i like it because its a little slice of my technological backgroud.

I use the dictionary on my mobile for texting, why bother with all the complex short cutting, when you can write a readable message just as quick, or are todays kids just to dumb to work it out in all reality.

Hate the SMS crap. When people use it on here it looks like they are uneducated. Don't understand it because I don't own a mobile phone (means annoying people can get in contact with me) and have never sent a text message. Ban them I say or at least give them a Barbie Avatar and a slap in the face.

Ok so I have been accused of being pedantic on more than one occasion but I abhor poor grammar, spelling and punctuation. The occasional typo is OK we are after all human… some of us more so than others… I admit I do judge people on the way they present themselves and on this – a public forum – it is the written word that reflects our characters.

I do not use SMS speak ever– not even on the mobile phone and trust me I do a lot of text messaging it is just so much easier to use predictive text. I tend to not read posts that are riddled with this other language and often feel sorry for the writer wondering if they just don’t realise they are doing it – that it has become that “normal” in today’s society that they just don’t know any better.

It’s all a bit sad isn’t it…

I can't stand the "lingo" either, even when people use it when chatting on MSN or phone messages... It drives me crazy. Half the time I'll make them spell it properly (or at least attempt it) before answering.

Having been a member of countless forums, I can say with certainty that this forum is a model of civility, however sometimes the lingo can be taken too far. You get that these days, though.
