Proud to say my Sister, who was born a Pom, was Nationalised today at the tender age of 52.
It wasn't a decision she took lightly, she certainly didnt rush into it, she's been here since '71..

Happy Australia Day people.

Don’t celebrate, or you’ll be labelled something unsavoury.

I turned the 6 o’clock news off after 30 seconds.

well as far as im concerned some righteous left right of center crying do gooder can themselves give my share for their cause
its not my fault the people that caused this days tradition by sending my ancestors here back then , leaving me to live with that tragedy , I need compensation for that too
so don't deprive me of the ability to remember on this day my unfortunate ancestry that is linked to this day

Some cities & states in the US are developing an interesting approach to a contentious european/indigenous day of significance:

https://www.sbs.com.au/nitv/article/...nal-odd-couple

Yes I concede Columbus Day differs in nature to Australia Day, a closer parallel date would be either <edit>Jan 5 (1688)</edit> from an Anglo perspective, or Feb 26 (1606) from a European perspective. The duality of a European/Indigenous day interests me though.

I suppose Australia Day in parallel with Invasion/Survival Day is actually pointing us roughly in the direction the US is going. I hope this direction is towards betterment.

Why can't there be two seperate days throughout the year to celebrate the two different cultures and their contributions to society past and present? Ignoring the fact most or all cultures in Australian society are celebrated on Australia Day in one way or the other.
How would incorporating specific recognition for aborigines with Australia Day (more than what there already is) be any different to NAIDOC week?

The answer to that, is the hard self loathing leftists are hell bent on undermining and watering down anything positive of Anglo/European culture past and present.

There already is a separate NAIDOC week. May not be a public holiday, but considering its doubtful the indigenous contribute to our economy much more than they take out of it, I don't see that its fair for employers to have to fund yet another public holiday.

Smoo,

NAIDOC week and Australia Day are two very different things.

Is ANZAC day simply a day to get on the beers, have a bbq, crank some tunes & wear an aussie flag as a cape?
