Default Sydney siege: Hostages held at Martin Place cafe

Quote:
Sydney siege: Hostages held at Martin Place cafe

A number of hostages have been taken in a siege in Sydney's CBD.

At least three people can be seen through the windows of a cafe in Martin Place with their hands raised.

An Islamic flag has also been seen hanging in the window of the Lindt Chocolat Cafe.

Witnesses have reported hearing loud bangs that sounded like gun shots.

One block of Martin Place has been cordoned off between Elizabeth Street and Phillip Street.

Dozens of police cars are at the scene and one police officer has drawn his gun.

Police have urged members of the public to avoid the area.

The Channel Seven newsroom opposite the cafe has been evacuated.

Seven producer Patrick Byrne said staff at the network watched the situation unfold.

"We raced to the window and saw the shocking and chilling sight of people putting their hands up against the panes of glass at the cafe," he said.

"This was just extraordinary.

"Then, as we were looking wondering what was going on, it seemed to be like an armed hold-up, more police arrived at Martin Place.

"The area was cleared. People were kept back.

"It was then that gasps went through the newsroom as an ISIS flag was put up against one of the window panes."

More to come.

Jesus Christ

Although it's not an ISIS flag they're waving around, it is the Shahada, S.O.P. for garden-variety Jihadists.

Hope the coppers and SAS can put an end to this without any blood spilt.

Let's hope this ends soon, peacefully. For the hostages that is...as for the Islamic terrorist, let's all hope his brains are painted all over the back wall by a police snipers bullet.

Been an awful lot of people travelling from Australia to fight with ISIS lately...and reportedly the legal eagles here that are trying to get them back to our country "safely" (bugger 'em) say that a lot of the fighters are "frightened" and want to come back. Too bad, morons. You wanted to go over there and be heroes, take what you have coming to you and stay there.

EDIT: The Opera House has apparently been evacuated after a suspicious package was found, and airspace over the city is in lockdown.

Well hows that multiculturalism and "tolerance of everyone no matter how radical their idelogy" going for us now....?

Now he's saying that he's planted packages all over the city. He also wants to speak to the PM personally.
I agree..."Hey mate...just stick your head out the door where we can aim at it...I MEAN SEE IT CLEARLY...and we'll let you speak to Abbott"...

I wonder what the motive is?

They're holding up a cafe and looking at the news there are already some form of military there with assault rifles.

What is the message they're trying to send?

I found it interesting the comments about Lindt being a very vocal company against halal certification. Someone annoyed at that maybe?

City is shut down. So shut down that cars can't come in and I can't drive out. Hope it ends with the hostages fine and the terrorists head splattered.

Bloody hell....I was really hoping something like this wouldnt eventuate here.

It makes my blood boil.....I pray for the hostages that they are not harmed. How does hurting innocent people make a difference to anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People are asking "why aren't muslim leaders heading down there to strongly decry what is happening and speaking out against it?". I think we all know the answer. If they won't, they obviously support what's going on, either overtly or covertly, full stop.
As for all the "normal muslims" we are told about, where are they? Pretty bloody quiet, that's where. If they refuse to condemn it, they too support it. If they are afraid to condemn it, then perhaps they should reassess their belief system.

Terrorism isn't exclusive to Islam, what's the excuse for the IRA or a lesser group the KKK? They carry different religious affiliation.

But some are more nutty than others...
As has been said before: insult the christian faith and they're instructed to turn the other cheek and forgive. But insult Islam and someone might just make things "interesting" for you when you start your car some morning...

Dont tar everyone with the same brush. The vast majority of people are good people, black/white/muslim/athiest. Do you think we would be less of a target if we didnt let any muslims into the country? Please...

Pretty good man, I don't mind Pizza, pasta, lamb rogan josh, lamb souvlaki or kebab, sometimes some pistachio kulfi and ricotta pastizzi are the bomb.

Some grana padano, prosciutto and ciabatta goes alright for lunch.

In fact spaghetti Bolognese is on the menu for lunch today

Multicultralism is working quite well for me, except for my waist line.

its created
they want this so we can be put into a bigger state of being watched 24/7
yup
im crazy

hopefully the snipers come in and get a clear shot
then watch the carnage really unfold

create the prob
gauge the reaction
then give the solution

hopefully no one who is innocently caught up in this gets harmed

What's the NSW Police tactical unit called? SOG isn't it?

ABC say "An unnamed Islamic educator has arrived and offered his services to police."

The terms and conditions you accept mean you have to find a way around it.
