Default The Little Green Boxes

Good afternoon

You may have noticed that there are some little green box icons in each user profile that were not previously there.

These are part of the user reputation system that we have introduced on the forum.

Basically the system works like this:

This system allows users to reach predefined reputation levels as follows:

User can only hope to improve -500
User has a little way to go -250
User is an unknown quantity at this point 0
User Still on L plates 10
User P Plater 50
User Advanced Driver - well worthy of respect 250
User is a jewel in the rough 500
User is just really nice 750
User is a beacon of light 1,000
User is a name known to all 1,500
User has much to be proud of 2,500
User has a reputation beyond repute 5,000

All new users start at 10 points of reputation.

All users have the ability to add to the reputation of another user as long as:

They have 50 posts
and
they have 50 points of their own

Registered users can issue points as follows (once they meet the criteria above):

1 point for each 30 days of membership
1 point for each 500 posts
1 point for each 100 points of their own reputation

Reputation points can only be allocated twice per day and there must be 30 other users allocated points before the same user can be awarded again.

Only Admins, Mods and Super Mods can leave negative reputation.

The system has been introduced as a means of allowing all members the opportunity to recognise those fellow members whose contribution to the forum has been of value to them. It is not a popularity contest but is designed to help new users identify those individuals whose input to the forum is of added value.

If somebody has added to your reputation you will be able to see the last few additions in your user profile.

Best regards
Admin Team

I like this idea, it's very good.
However i don't understand why i have 10 points, by the above methods i should have 30 or 40 or so? Sorry if i'm missing something obvious...

Just for clarification, if I read a post by a user that is extremely helpful and want to add to there reputation do I just click the symbol down the bottom next to report bad post and then add a comment? Will they then see that in there user cp?

Great idea by the way.

Hardware you are talking about points you can issue to other users.

Quote:
Registered users can issue points as follows (once they meet the criteria above):

1 point for each 30 days of membership
1 point for each 500 posts
1 point for each 100 points of their own reputation
So if you have been here 12 months (as an example) and have 2,000 posts and only 10 rep points.

You would have 16points that you would add to other users repute when you rep them.

Seen these little green boxes on other sites and wondered about them, now I understand (I think) :

Well done to the masterminds of AFF for the little green boxes :

So no-one can give rep to anyone else unless they have received it themselves to get themselves more than 50 points?

I spend a lot of time on another forum using the same system, its generally a good system, but it can lead to a lot of arguments and people whinging about being unfairly neg. repped. At least here only mods/admins can neg. rep but, so might not have the same problem.

Keen to see how it goes here :P

As I read it yes. I guess that means a mod or admin has to rep someone who isn't a mod or admin to get it all started. It will probably take a little while for the system to get itself up and running to where other respected members can hand out rep to others.

No it's worse than that. You have to amass 50 points through nothing more than time and posts before you can give or receive points, or at least that's how i read it. IE i have to have 50 and you have to have 50 before a rep can take place, either way.

No the points you are talking about are points that you give away.

On other forums it goes

Reputation (Green Dots); Points you have received from other users
&
Rep Power; Points you can give away to other users in order to increase there Reputation (Those little green dots)

So you could still have 100 Rep power through just having lots of posts and being here a long time but if no one has giving you reputation and you are still on 10 points then you can't give away reputation to other users.

So inorder for them to give reputation they need 50 posts and have received 50 points of reputation from other users.

just wondering why ( just useing the last 3 posts ) ie whoosha , kenz and LukeyST here

why is whoosha on L plates with 2075 posts
kenz on L plates with 1805 posts
and
LukeyST on P plater with only 177 posts( nothing against you lukey )

i would have thought that whoosha would have been a P plater well and truely he has put in more than most others on this forum with the amount he has posted

Because those green dots refer to points received.
The points that are based on posts and time are points that you can give away.

All that means is that Lukey has RECEIVED the most points but whoosha can GIVE AWAY the most points.

Russell and Admin team there seems to have been an implementation problem with the green dots, as I have started at the wrong end with a full number of green dots.

There are many people on here with much better reputations than mine who have way less dots. So when you next looking at this system my dots need to be revised down to a reasonable level.

dont get me wrong here

if this was implemented Today, 05:47 PM or just before that shouldnt most of the point or status be done on the amount of posts we have made ( at that point in time ) i can give points or recomend them for points i understand that

what i dont get is why 1 person has a p plate status and another with more posts is on a lower level

just wondering thats all ( and i only used those 3 people as my example )

I'm happy. It’s been a bloody long time since I’ve been a P plater, so it makes me feel 19 again.

People who are still on L-Plater status haven't been given any points, everyone started on 10 L-Plater status.

The way i read it, anyone can give reputation points, click the scale icon under the user name, and say if the post was informative and whether the person deserves rep points.
