Default xw gt engine is it real

guys im asking this on behalf of a friend! who spotted an old xw up on the atherton table lands and enquired with the farmer about it! it had been smashed badly, vandalized and lots a bits pinched including plate and part of tower looked like had been cut with axe, the farmer had already pulled engine and box and stored, anyhow it was a gt so he says! he has since asked the old bloke about buying the motor, i want to know if it is a fake or not

block D2AE-OA/ 4A9 2 bolt 4v 351c

pad looks unmodified reads J G 3 3 R Y 1 3 X X 0 K

I WAS LEAD TO BELIEVE ALL GT ENG# ENDED WITH C

ANY HELP PLEASE

The fact that it has JG33 at the front says it is a GT block. ....and if my decoding is right a June 1975 block. A GT block , but not an XW GT one.

Are u sure the "R" is not really a "K" ? , because then that would make it a Feb 1970 block which would suit XW GT.

Not true. my uncle many years ago (12) destroyed the plates and cut out the tower from his XW GT when it was stolen, rolled and burnt (no insurance) just so it could never be rebirthed. The engine ended up in a boat that he still has.

I'd say no. It was a complete mess. The only way it could be repaired would be to rebody it and than its no longer a GT is it. He felt better knowing that some one would not be shafted latter down the track. I think he did the right thing. Imagine how you'd feal if you just forked out $$$$$$$$ on a GT thats not a GT. I know how i'd feal.

sorry for jacking your thread corvettec4.
sounds like your onto a GT engine to me. Its worth what your willing to pay for it. Its braging rites are wouth more than the engine as the only thing diferent to any other block is the first few numbures on it.

Its only worth more than a std cleveland to the person who owns the original GT it came from.. to everyone else its just another cleveland, there's certainly nothing special about a std GT engine that cant be bolted on..

Default re revs

guys thanks for the help
i have checked it with revs in qld its clean!! but where can i go to see if its in another car or is there a gt registry that i can look for the ##
and my brother now doesnt want it so ill buy it and after a call to the owner he has offered me the complete interior ,some is damaged but mostly good,

do u guys think it would make a good repo i found a good rolling shell already!
and no i have no plans to try and rebirth it!! it will just be a repo with a real gt donk in it, will it be worth more than one with a non jg33, if of course its done to a high standard? or will people just assume that the motor # have been faked
and because it going to be a repo what do u think about changing to 2v for better drivabilaty

In the original post it says: " it had been smashed badly, vandalized lots a bits pinched including plate and part of tower looked like had been cut with axe, "

Now that statement makes me think that it was pinched to build a fake GT

Default well

well that was my concearn also however as i stated it is not showing on the revs register!

and i believe the old guys story! if he was trying to sell it and it was pinched they wouldnt leave the # on engine and i know if i had one pinched i would have reported it ! so not showing as stolen i think covers that, my concearn is that whoever got the missing bits may have rebirthed it and be using the eng# on another block!! and the car had the motor ,interior, box, diff removed after smash and apparently many years before the plates and external stuff went missing!! this is why i want to check

I didnt mean the old guy was selling a stolen car or stolen parts , I meant whoever stole the bits off his car would be rebirthing it somewhere else.
