Default Coles and Woolworths making donations

Hey all,

I don't normally post these things but I thought I would this time. If it's been said before then please ignore.

Coles is donating all its profits this Friday 13th Feb 09 to the Bushfire Appeal Fund in association with the Red Cross. So if you're doing shopping, shop at Coles this Friday.

Woolworths is donating all its profits on Friday 20th Feb 09 to the farmers who are doing it hard.

Thanks.

I've seen official announcement from Coles about theirs this Friday, anybody got anything official from Woolworths stating that they're doing it too? I like to see official things before I believe stuff.

Also, does anyone know whether it counts Coles Express & petrol, if so I'll wait til Friday before filling up.

Edit - sorry I thought you meant Woolies were doing it for Bushfire, teach me to speedread won't it.

Coles to donate this Friday's profits to Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund

Coles will donate this friday's (13 Feb ) profits from its 750 stores nationally to the Government's Bushfire Appeal Fund in partnership with the Red Cross.

Customer's will also be able to donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund at all Coles stores . Donations can be made at all Coles checkouts from today.

Coles managing director Ian McLeod said the bushfire tragedy had touched a number of Coles Team members ,some of whome have lost loved ones in the fire , and a number that have lost their homes.

" like everyone in the community , we've been shocked by the devistation these fires have wrought , and we extend our deepest sympathies to those who've suffered loss in this terrible event," Mr McLeod said

Mr McLeod said the the size of this friday's donation would depend on customer support, but could be several million dollars.

"We hope Australians will help us make this Friday's donation as substantial as possible."

Coles has been helping ground level releif agencies, providing essentials such as food, water and toiletries, and will continue to provide additional local support as needed.

Further Information,
Jim Cooper

I bought a snag at Bunnings today...of which the proceeds are going towards the bushfire fund.
Well, I got the snag, and put in five bucks. Every little bit helps!

This Friday I'm going on a trip with friends, and we're going to Coles just to support this initiative.

Yeah I should put the links up

Woolworths - http://www.woolworthsbackingourfarmers.com.au/

Coles - http://coles.com.au/about/news/documents/Coles bushfire appeal donation.pdf

For those of you that want to donate directly to the Red Cross go to their website
http://www.redcross.org.au/vic/servi...ppeal-2009.htm

I donated 20 bucks just then. Might give some more tomorrow.

I'd go shopping on Friday if they have anything on their shelves. Nothing left up here to buy!

I'll wait 'till Friday to do my shopping then.

On another note.. My sister works at a coles here in Adelaide and apparently anything within a month of its use by is getting sent across there rather than getting discounted.

Adidas is donating 200 grand in apparel and footwear to victims, they are also donating saturdays takings towards the bushfire appeal (percentage i think, not sure).

Also Fosters has donated 75 grand, commonwealth bank donated a massive amount from the cricket ( 5 grand for every 6, 600 for every run i think) as well.

Plus all the big banks coming up with a mill each.

All helps, good to see we're all digging deep.

Woolworths is/has donating $1 million, i heard from the boss today.
The backing our farmers is completly different to the fire victims, they donate all profits on fridays trade.
