Default Engine help!

hey all i got a mk2 cortina and i just took my 1600cross flow to engine reco shop to see what they would say, the head is well and truely stuffed as i thought with a big crack down the centre and the block has already been bored 0.60 thou over so they cant take anymore off which it needs and i dont want to sleeve it so im up for another engine, any suggestions what to put in it? i want to have something that has a bit of power thats 4cyl and an easy fit so without changing diffs and cutting tunnels ect. it is a budget build but i will spend a lil more here and there if i have to any help and suggestions would be great thanks. i do like the 1600 crossflow engines aslong as i can get a few my hp out of one so anywhere from 100-200+hp would be perfect cheers.

2L is not really an easy conversion in an early Cortina. Engine/gearbox mounts, exhaust, throttle linkage, tail shaft, sump, brakes, suspension upgrade (springs minimum) and it still has to be engineered. May as well go Jap turbo/supercharged if you are going to that kind of trouble. Might be able to get away with not moding the tunel with a 4AG, either NA or supercharged...

Sounds like you should hunt around for a 1600 in reasonable condition. Tinker with it if you want some more squirt. Some people have had good results by supercharging the X-flow. But again with the engineering issues. Even a really good one will feel woeful compared with a standard jap turbo.

Just my 2 cents.
