Recently bought a canopy for my BA since doing so my Border Collies decided its the place to be permanentlyAfter being out and about and arriving home he has taken to just sitting on the tailgate and waiting for the next trip, never did it when there was no canopy. If the waits to long rather than coming into the house he just has a zzzz in the back of the uteStrange indeed as before this he was always 1st inside to find a spot on the couch.Went outside yesterday to find him still waiting a couple of hours later.

Hah! what a great dog.......he knows his way around his mate!
a bit of rubberised matting in the back for "grip" would help him in and out as well as make it a bit more stable. good thread.

Got some matting down mate, used to work in a woollen mill and was able to get some carding machine rubber, good thick stuff.Hes also got one of those big rubber backed industrial matts on top of that for 1/2 the deck.Put it there for a Collie we used to have that had a bad hip and i didnt want any chance of him sliding about and causing his hip grief (read as more vet bills)

yeah! she sniffed up a grass seed that the vet couldn't get out, then it turned septic so a stay was in order.......my choice was "put her down" or pay up!
she's a toy shitzu, goes everywhere with me, she's on my lap now, cuddling in. mate, their like our kids, I've had some say they wouldn't pay but what if it was your daughter? I figure if you take them on...... then its for good and bad, she's given me 12 years of pleasure, 24/7 so I owe her a fair bit. besides.....the grandkids would never talk to me again if I had her put down. the vet bill worked out about $2,000.00 per kilo..LOL! ........the dog lovers amongst us will understand. those that aren't think I'm mad, probably not far off the mark. canopy suits the vehicle well...

Stay tough, being a working dog breed, he's just trying to guilt you into taking him out for another run. Back in my youth my Blue Heeler would do the same thing. You could almost see the look of disappointment in his eyes when I would just walk past and ignore him, but, as soon as he heard my keys rattle, vooosh and into the back of the ute quicker than a rat up an aqueduct.
Cheers Vincenzo

That's why we love our dogs!!
How old is your Border? He looks pretty big or is that just his coat? My Border girl is 4 and I can't even walk from one room to the next without her tagging along. |

My boy border collie passed away last week due to liver and pancreas failure, ten and a half years old, grew up with the kids, sadly missed.
He enjoyed trips in the back of the utes I had, my current xr6 ute tailgate was low enough for him to jump up on in his later years! There a good breed of dog, not perfect but we tolerated his bad behaviours. |

As big as he is hes not the boss, the particularly nasty thing on top of the couch is indeed the boss.there best of mates but everynow and then the play fights get nasty, funny as watching the dog take off as the cats flying through the air at him..

We just lost our Staffy, 16 years old she was. Still hurts and I've had 2 months to deal with it, but when she's been there right next to you for that long and then she isn't, well..... its just tough |

Sorry 98 off topic , beautiful dog and would be my first choice if I didn't live in the suburbs .Our staffy isn't the most sociable dog which puts off leash areas out which is his only downside. However he's our baby and probably gets treated better than the g/kids. |

I know, an amazing innings for a Staffy. We realise we were lucky to have her for so long. I cant imagine having to see her endure fits, that must have been hard. Watching her struggle with limited sight, hearing loss and the stiffness a cold morning brings was more than enough. Apology from me also for railroading your thread OP, just wanted to respond to a fellow Staffy lover |

My old Border colloie would never have got in the back... she had the front seat of the ambo, with a standard seat belt on. Miss her terribly.
