I've seen numerous "Quit smoking" threads on many of the forums I frequent and I've noticed very few people mention hypnotherapy and if it is mentioned, it doesnt seem to get much of a look or a comment.
I am a non-smoker for a tad over 2 years thanks to hypnotherapy. I am a firm believer in this as a treatment obviously due to my results from it. I was one of those that said "I could give up any time I want, I just dont want to yet". I tried cold turkey a couple of times but I think the best I lasted was about 6 weeks. Hypnotherapy is not just for quitting smoking, it can be used for depression, anxiety, fears, weight loss, and I'm sure there's more I cant think of. I'm interested to see how many people hear the word 'hypnotherapy' and just think "pfft, what a crock", "hippy crap", "hocus pocus", etc. |

I am a smoker for a tad over 20 years no thanks to hypnotherapy - tried it and after 8 sessions the guy said it was a waste of time for me. I still use the releaxation techniques to help fall asleep sometimes though.

Doesnt it have to do with the fact that you REALLLLYYYY want to quit?
Thats how being hypnotised works that you really are open to the "suggestion"?

I'm not so much interested in people's experiences with hypnotherapy. I'm interested to see responses of people that have not received hypnotherapy.
Jim, I dont think it requires that you REALLLLYYYY want to quit, I think you just have to want to. If you really dont want to quit I doubt someone could make you. Though some hypnotherapists might make that claim. |

Therapeutic hypnotherapy delivered by a appropriately certified and registered psychologist is as real as it gets - seen real life success on everything from giving up smoking to treating severe PTSD.
In a nutshell, when done ethically by a properly certified practitioner - it works. Cheers James |

I have looked into it several times to quit...and I know I need to, but when it comes down to it, the skeptic in me says 'you can have hypnotherapy, and you won't be able to afford smokes', unfortunately, my will power to smoke, far outways my will power to quit...I quit for a day, cold turkey, no cravings whatsoever, so I know I can do it...I just keep making excuses not to stay off them...

there is nothing special about hypnotherapy - it cannot make you do anything you do not want to do
it can get into your subconscious and help you do things you would not normally do through pride or lack of will power if you want to quit and you see a good hypnotherapist, then it can work |

I think it's more willpower than various drugs, methods etc in order to quit.
Me and the missus said that after we got back from Thailand last week, we'de give up. I haven't bought a pack since, nor had a smoke. I guess I'm just too lazy to buy more. I won't say I'll never have any more, I still have the odd one or 2 when out somewhere, but find it easy to just stop. Some people find it very hard though. I know a bloke who was on medication and patched at the same time yet still smoked. You have to say thats that and just stop, keep yourself busy at the routine times when you usually light up a dart ie., after a feed, having a beer etc. |
