Default XRNIL.8 (the car)

Last week I got confirmation about the origins of my AU XR8 with Many Thanks to a fantastic TMU officer in Werribee. (and FPV & XR Owners Club of Victoria Member. : )

"As promised, here's some history on your XR8. It was a marked car, not an unmarked car. As I thought, it was at the Geelong Traffic Management Unit.

Police Rego No. PEK-617
Roof No. N 07
Date Retired 29/04/99
Speedo Reading 52724 (when retired)
Total Days in Service 230

Accessories fitted;
Air Con
Alloy wheels (5)
Police Pack
Ford Sports Suspension
AM/FM Radio
ABS Brakes
Dual Air Bags
LSD
Power Windows
Cruise Control
Mud Flaps
Full Fuel Tank
Bonnet Protector

Vehicle it replaced - OTA 105 (make unknown)
Allocated vehicle that replaced yours - PRE-432 (make unknown)
Actual vehicle that replaced yours - POR 254 (make unknown)

It was then sent to Jupps Auctions in May 1999, and sold to Ethridge Ford in Lilydale."

Although this photo is not of my car ... it is what it would have looked like, except with the standard Tickford Mags? Interestingly, I have one of the mags shown here as a spare. Maybe it didn't have the tickford mags from Factory ... which might explain how they have managed to remain scratch free mostly ... and are now in storage to ensure they remain that way

I also received this from the Victoria Police Historical Society Inc.

Skippy has made some minor modifications (unwanted) to the bonnet so if my insurer is happy I may be looking at putting an S1 AU bonnet on with the BA bulge ..... I spotted some on eBay for $695 made from metal, not fibreglass including painted plus postage. Unless anyone else knows of a good product closer to home (ie from Melbourne not Sydney)

The skippies got me half way from Horsham to Bendigo ... was heading back from SA and at 4am .... not a great time to be dodging the little so and so's ..... with a full moon to boot!

I am as keen as mustard for the bulging bonnet ;) ... just gotta see how receptive our insurer is to the idea ... pretty sure it is a cheaper option than a new AU 1 bonnet.

I purchased pretty much the same car from NSW HWP, 12/99 AU XR8, got it for $24,600 and sold it for $24,500 some 50,000km and 2.5 years later, it still gets around town here and by geez i miss it.

I really love driving this car Sam, was really suprised how good a car they really are. Having a BA and the AU in our driveway I prefer to drive the AU, although my wife prefers the BA ... oh well, can't please everyone ;)

Oh bugger ! I too had a visit from Skippy in the previous daily driver..... (after finishing a sprint day at Sandown and then required that night at Buller for Mt Buller Sprint) little buggers got me about 45 mins out of Lilydale... grrrrr

There is a club member Carl, who runs Carl's Performance parts (funny that). He has a white AU with a bonnet that has a bulge. There will be some pics in the club gallery, but try him. He is the western suburbs, I'll pm you what contact numbers I have. I'm sure he brought his car to Kiwanis - I know he brought the Cobalt Blue ED........you may have photos.... :

It may be nothing, but he will at least be able to tell you where he got his......
