Last time I looked into making my own page, I just got a free host, I think it was like 500mb space and 5gb bandwith and a few emails and PHP, MYSQL blah blah blah for free, then I got a domain from.... sorry I forget but the deal was that all you have to do is put their small picture somewhere on your homepage. So it was sort of like a redirection, it looked like my URL was something, but it was actually just being redirected back to the free host's URL. If you are going to do a proper job, want lots of space, who's your ISP? I seem to remember one of our last providers gave us everything for like $10 a month all included. So, I'd ring them first. Or, you could do it the other way and make your own web server, which is different altogether, but its free and you can have all the space you want.
