Default Do the right thing brother!

Rap penalty sparks race outcry!!

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599...0-1702,00.html

I reckon its a fair (no pun intended) penalty. Anyway, why fine them? You can't get blood form a stone.

When we were kids an played up at the swimming pool the lifeguard used to make us swim laps. Can you imagine that happening in this "don't tell me what to do" day and age? .

Lol, saved em a few hundred bucks!!!

I kind of wish that the people involved would be the ones to decide wether it was demeaning or not... instead of a special interest group with all sorts of vested interests.

If the kids (i assume they were young) were laughing... where's the problem...

PE teacher used to make us do laps of the oval if we were screwing around in class. Sure as hell beats detention.

FFS.

This world is too politically correct, and I'm sick of it.

You can't say this cause you'll offend these people, you can't say that cause you'll offend those people.

Need I say that people need to harden the **** up?

Reminds me of the kid I took to the deputy principal once for mooning me. He argued that I couldn't get him in trouble because I was laughing.

Uncle Chop Chop is awesome!!!

Anyway, I read that article and I thought the cop did the right thing. The odds of those two kids haveing 1k between them would be fairly low IMHO, so the cop has two options:

Fining them, them not being able to pay the fine, then doing some jail time in lieu of paying the fine, getting a record and then it all going downhill from there;

Or making them do something else instead of that, which they would remember next time they were about to litter, and that being that.

I also (as per the article) think the officers' actions would have been different if the kids were white (he probably would have just fined them and told them not to do it again, but that would have been because they would be much more likely to be able to pay the fine.

So in reality he did those kids a favour by giving them the option to recieve their 'punishment' in a different way.

Good cop I reckon.
