Oh, and Mod's,

If this isnt 'cool' to talk about, fair enough. I wont be surprised if it dissapears. I understand that it is a 'touchy' subject on the net.

Personally i would simply use something like limewire or bitcomet and just be slightly more intelligent with what you download (not calling you unintelligent), also invest in some decent antivirus software, there is a really good free program called avast antivirus which im personally using and it hasnt let me down, auto updates bout once a weekish so its prety up to date.
Free sites tend to have very limited mainstream music, im sure there are smaller communities for more underground music but im very mainstream r n b and hip hop so i wouldnt know about these sites.

Hope that helps mate.
Cheers

limewire is the best for audio I have found...for other "stuff" I used to use eMule, but find Torrents to be much quicker...Azureus is the go...

when an artists endorses it, triple j constantly have free mp3's to download from their site, however its probably not what your after as the selection is reasonably limited

Yeah, there are still free mp3 sites for unknown artists trying to make it out in the big bad world and I've also run into specialty sites before.....which are often remixes or artists you've never heard of from a specific genre.

Peer 2 peer is better....just be a bit more wise.

I use:

Limewire for mp3s
eMule for albums
Torrents for movies

and some times I browse around efnet on IRC to find albums...

Good advice. I do the same.

AVG has been pretty good so far for me too.
