Default RAAF Airshow Richmond - This weekend 21/22 Oct

Anyone going?

They claim it will be bigger than the one in 1988 - which was absolutley an awesome day out if I remember correctly. Got to sit in a fighter (think it was an F18) - very exciting for an 8 year old at them time.

Ill be flat out refuelling the buggers tomorrow then I'll hopefully get some time off to have a look around.
Expected crowd is around 40,000.
Windsor Rd along the base will be closed for the weekend and I recommend that whoever wants to go from the surrounding areas leaves a couple of hours earlier than expected because the traffic will be tight as well as security. Rain hail or shine, this will be big.

I might be coming in for a look, later on in the arvo.

They are running more trains in, and you get cheaper entry if you use public transport.

what a day! i went out there today on the train.
holy hell it was cold.
seeing the f111 at indy is good but nothing comes close to how low it buzzed the crowd today.
we desided @ 2pm to head back over to the train station to watch the hornets and beat the crowd to the trains, and it was worth it.
being 100m from the runway and seeing/feeling 4 FA18 hornets @ full noise was fantastic! not to mention the c17 globemaster holding with brakes on and full thrust, man that needs wheelie bars when the brake was released.
also all the planes flew over where we stood, unlike the crowd who was inside raaf base.
hope its not another 18years for the next one!
hats off to organisers with public transport running ontime and no real problems.

anyone see the remote control planes?? some very $$$ toys there.......

I think the one in 1988 was an "international" airshow whereas the one this last weekend was just the annual RAAF airshow.

Only international flying displays were the yanks running around in a C17 (which was pretty interesting) and the Redbull air race Castrol team plane.

Having lived in Richmond since 97 I can say its the first one in like 10 years so it wasnt the anual one, i thought it was great, I went out the end of the runway on Saturday afternoon and had a great view, I paid my $$ on Sunday looked arround stood in line for an hour and a half to show my kids through a hurk etc watched it start then went back to the free seats beasue appart form no comentary I recon it was a better view. My kids loved it so I was happy, and my personal fave was the C17 how agile was it for its size

I spent me $$ and took the tribe down on the train on saturday. it was cold but really fun!
On sunday we drove down and snuck past the road closures and found a spot right near the fence overlooking the runway.
Had a fist full of scanners, and a picnic hamper. That was even better then saturday!

Top marks to the RAAF
