i used wireless broadband in sydney when i was down there, it was actually pretty good and stable.

telstra had minimax which is cdma based broadband service (basically a mobile phoone for your computer) the missus has it for laptop, basically where she has mobile phone coverage, she has the internet.

we also have another wireless broadband provider here in TSV, but i had lots of issued with it, which i was working in IT

I think internode - www.internode.on.net offer wireless ? They're based in SA and I have them for my ADSL. They're pretty good.

DONT get it.

it will drop out when you least expect...or dont settle for the crappy modem they give you get a decent netgear one or similar.

wireless is alright, can get very fast but in an area that has alot of interference ie wireless network, bluetooth, tv antenna, large electronic devices even magnets its gonna be half your time using it will be redialling and repositioning the modem.

good luck

If your talking about the wireless that you plug directly into a laptop and it uses the CDMA network then go for it... If your talking about the one that is intalled in a house then just get normal DSL.. it's so much better.

With the 256/64 speeds you'll be clocking up 500mb in one weekend without even trying..

I was with Veritel Wireless for a year. 50 bucks for 300meg download. I chewed that 300meg in some... 5 hours. Rest of the month I was on dialup speeds. Didnt stop me from downloading 6 gigs a month though :P

Internode offer free wireless hotspots around the CDB here in Adelaide. It's only web browsing for non-Internode customers.
Us Nodians get free full web access via them.

https://hotspot.internode.on.net

Anything that is associated with Telstra will be horribly overpriced.

u r talking about wireless based on a home adsl line, there are some good modem routers out there that can be quite reliable. we have somemajor dramas with our netgear one here at home, randomly disableing wireless and requires reset. Top of my list is linksys, cisco supported product, reliable, easy to use, good functionlaity, followed by dlink.

however i believe what ssb is after is a truley wireless provider. Personally if i had to go wireless, I would go with a cdma based one, as even then i am not locked into one place, but can move from town to town without having to change anything, even in some of the smaller ones. I would say it quite ideal for sales reps and the similar who are on the road a lot.

Hehehe , im still using dial-up ! , and in no hurry to change , it's still fast enough for what i need...... besides that / i get it free !( apart from my local dialup phone call ), but i have no time-out limit and no download limit (my pc is usually online for a week or 2 before i hang up to check for messages ), i usually clock up over a gig worth of downloads each month no worries / as i have my pc online downloading programs etc all night / and browse during the day. I still can't find a ISP that could offer me cable/broadband/wireless/dsl for free ! ( or the price of my 20 cent phone call once a fortnight) and a gigs worth of download a month... hehehehe

forget cdma. It's being ditched in favour of a 3G network. the problem is that the network proposed by Telstra runs at a different frequency so current 3G phones won't work on it. The "others" have banded together and might extend coveage to compare using the exixtign 3G frequency.

have to agree with any recommendation for Internode. I've been with them for 3 years on ADSL and no issues at all. Reasoanbly priced, reliable and a good download limit. I need the limit and have never approached it despite (officially) downloading betas of Office 2007 and Vista from pre-beta 1 onwards and a number of quite large full-files from MSDN.

the best place to check this out is in the whirlpool forums - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/ . iBurst comes to mind.

A search at http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc-plan.cfm shows Chariot:

Wireless Chariot Wireless 1.5 $49.95 /mo 1500/256 20 GB Shaped setup: $250
Wireless Chariot Wireless 512 $39.95 /mo 512/128 20 GB Shaped setup: $250

full details adn links to discussion on their service at:

http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/isp.cfm/C...-2.html?p=9542

I'm sure there are others. I can't recall the name of a service I have stuck in the back of my head but it coems highly recommended. chariot seems cheaper - along the lines of DSL cost.

why not just get a laptop an wireless network, then just go to maccas and use their connection, most fast food resturants have wireless internet (even here in cessnock their called hotspots), probably even reach out into the carpark....!! :

Because they are run by Telstra and are horribly overpriced! I think it's $12 an hour!
Here in Adelaide, Internode has free wireless hotspots in close to 60 locations around SA and a few in other states. I know that I'd rather use the free service than have to pay for it! See my earlier post for the link.
