Another fatality

Night before last the was a multible fatality on Maltby Bypass near Werribee.

Last night another multible fatality in Victoria. Some may have heard this on the news, it was on the south Gipsland highway in Clide.

I drove past it this morning and got a chill doen my spine. It was very sad sight. The VX Commodore was 95% under the trailer of the B-double. I could only identify the car by the tail lights. The wheels of the trailer flatened the rest of the car.

I drove past at 0730 today, the incident had occured over three hours earlier. Then I drove back home at 1330 and they had just started to use a crane to lift the trailer.

Very sad indeed.

i just heard on the news that a rear pax survived in that car. it hit the truck at an estimated 180kph.

I also feel sorry for the poor truck driver, he has to live with that thought for the rest of his life, even though it wasn't his fault.

Very sad to see, That green commodore looked absolutely mangled, amazing that the bloke in the back seat survived, I'm sure he'll be counting his blessings now. Also noticed that it was on a road that had the speed limit dropped from 100 to 90. Alot of good that did, 150km/h into a truck is still 150km/h into a truck, although I spose he was exceeding the speed limit by an extra 10km/h. Which of course is reducing the road toll at an alarming rate. :

Has anybody else noticed that a large majority of fatal crashes that appear in the media are holden commodores or its variants?... Is this because of their renowned structural strength, or lack thereof. Or do hoons just like to drive commodores? Or is it just that a commodore is a common car, this one has me baffled.

Very sad. Too many families losing loved ones at the moment.

And yes, I feel very bad for the poor truck driver. No amount of counselling is going to help him forget that accident for a long time.

Whilst a 'multiple' fatality, it is still an individual crash. The Victorian toll may or may not be getting worse on a per 100vkt measure.

Are some answers to all this, but too many dumbarses control things in Vic.

I drove past this morning heading towards Cranbourne but got diverted, but on the way back it was all cleared up, but the thing that most stood out was the lack of skidmarks .(abs)?

Looking at that pic just put a knot in my stomach. I can't help but think of the car looking a million bucks, the owner having a great day and then in an instant nothing is ever the same again. Those who have had a serious acco will know exactly what I'm on about - if you are lucky enough to survive, the real impact hits when you look at your car and you could just about puke.

I can vouch for that . You "Learn to Live With It" , but you never forget . (33 yrs for me) still seems like yesterday .

Vary sad for the families & truck driver . This is why I TRY to convince anyone wanting to drive fast , do it on the track .

Today's cars are much safer than they were years ago , but do they give you a "False sense of Security" ?

Think about the poor truck driver now...... and the other guy that managed to walk away.
I say, if your booting along an 80 zone 100 k's over.. you deserve to end up under a truck like that, what if they t boned a family, or a car full of kids???

Rodderz, the Gov makes way too much money from camera's to give a toss about them not working. Nothing you can do...

That seems a little harsh, but I know where you are coming from. If someone had to die it only seems "fair?" that the person doing idiotic things should be the one that gets the short straw.

What this country need's is a massive rally of performance vehicles and their drivers to converge on Canberra requesting the feds to make heaps more money available for new driver screening and education. We just cant believe or rely on State governments any longer, they see road saftey in terms of revenue and being "seen to be doing something."

Unfortunately it comes down to driver error. Which in this case ended in death. Drivers need to take more care and responibility for their actions.

i can vouch for that, i tboned a vw back in 92, i was doing around 90kms, they came straight out of a side street running a stop sign.... nice one.
pulled them out of the passenger side as fuel was everywhere, ambos/cops/firies arrived and i sat on the side of the road in shock, looked at the damage and hurled, then noticed my legs were rooted... nice one.

it aint fun at all.

Its not just the southerners that had a bad few days... Up here northern NSW (Tweed Heads) Had a fatal accident wich involved a old man and a family van. And new cars are not always safe...this poor old man had no chance in his GETZ.

I also pulled a older lady from a convertable mustang on sexton hill who later passed away. it was a 5 car pile up in the same spot it always happens.

As a rescue operator it makes me sick to get out the jaws and cut out the b pilar or any nice car...let a lone a full roof removal! so just think about that before being silly on a public road.

The car was very much so over the limit.

The real victims here are the families & the truck driver who will never be the same again.

Speed is a scapegoat, there were no brake lines.

It's easier to say the car was speeding and 'speed kills' this justified all the cameras.

How do you know the driver of the clubsport wasn't lighting a smoke, changing a CD, pashing his GF????

Two close calls overnight aswell, one of which 5 females injured in a collision with a pole, which looked to be Sydney Road? WTF? How can you do that on that road.

Road toll is just as bad if not worse than last year, all the speed camera's, what have they done to prevent the last two double fatalities? Nothing at all & frankly I think most people are sick of being told to wipe off 5 km/h, bla bla bla, it would not have made any difference in any of aforementioned collisions anyway.

The Government & Police really need to take a different approach, ie get more of them on the road, as opposed to tied up with files etc. Simple.

lets face it humans are unpredictable as long as we are these things will happen, and by the look of that smash if the bdouble was turning, i don`t think you need to be doing 180k`s to end up like that, a car roof hitting steel rails is no match
