Default changing drive letter on boot drive

i stuffed up installing vista, tried to install linux that didnt work, installed XP back had to format as xp cant read linux format... formatted C: drive that became nothing and moved the rest up one C: drive became H: drive had no choice but install winxp on H:

now C: drive being a storage partition gets all the crap that the worst OS puts on there, how do i change the drive letters around??

i tried disk management but it says i cant change on a system drive or something like that, got norton ghost but forgot how to use it?? i dont think itd work anyway

does anyone have any ideas? besides formatting both drives as they are the one hard drive...which i cant as the other 4 are full, 650gb just isnt enough

The boot drive MUST be C:
The system boot files must be on C:

Thats why it won't let you change the "system" drive...

Sounds like you've made a bit of a mess...I would just move all your storage files/backups etc to a new partition on the end of the disk and then reformat the rest, and install XP onto C:

boot drive does not have to be C, although making it another drive is not easy, I had a system with a boot drive of H and then a 2nd partition called C: , i formatted the entire drive back to normal to get a C: drive install though.

I am pretty sure once i used a bootup program and changed the drive letter, i also changed the boot.ini file and changed H:to C: it worked OK, but the amount of registery info that was screwed up was not worth the effort.
