Default XR6 Turbo for 14k, should i buy it????

I have been offered a 2003 BA XR6 Turbo for $14,000. The reason its so cheap is the lease on it is nearly up and this bloke wants a BFII.
First of all, how do i get the cash together, and can i drive it?
im on my 2nd year of P-plates here in Vic.
Pro's
Its an XR6 turbo..
Will pull in the chicks
i can sell it for 30k, pay off the loan i got to buy it in the first place and have some to spend or buy an NA XR6.
its an XR6 Turbo
Cons.
i dont think i can drive it yet
insurance costs
hard getting a loan but mum has agreed to go guarantor
Risk

The real question is Should i do it? and would you do the same?

You won't be allowed to drive it in Vic mate, and if you sold it, it would only pull low $20ks but it still isn't a bad profit

Sounds good, How many Km's, thats the biggest factor affecting price. There are a lot of XR's for sale so it would have to be low km's and remember selling big $$$ cars privately can be hard.

The average wholesale of a basic 2003 6T auto with 40-50k is a bit over $20k, slightly higher for a manual so he should get a higher trade than $14k.

Either it has a zillion kms or he has an ulterior motive but it smells a bit.

Be careful.

Get confirmation of the payout from his finance company and make a one cheque payable to them, the other to him for the balance.

Do a REVS check to make sure that only one financier has an interest in the vehicle.

And get NRMA/RACQ/whatever to thoroughly check the vehicle.

I bought mine before petrol prices went up and performance car prices went down. 2003 XR6T with a few options cost me mid $30k :( Sounds like a good deal but as the others have said, make sure you get it checked out. How long until your off your P's? If the car is good it might even be worth picking it up and holding onto it if you only have 12 months or less to go or something? Maybe do a few nice little cosmetic mods to it or something while its garaged. Just make usre you resist the temptation to drive it ;)

If it all checks out, for that money you don't reallty have a choice - you have to buy it - then decide whether to hang on to it or sell it.

If you have to wait a while it would probably be a good idea to sell it, just so there is no temptation to take it on the road....

he should be able to drive it in vic on his p's he's already got his p's so theres no ne of those p plater restrictions when they come in and he can put it in his mums name and go down as 75% driver on insurance so insurance costs sweet f.a. and he can drive it happily.

its only power to weight restrictions that may be a worry...

The XR6T exceeds power to weight ratio for P Platers unfortunately so it would be illegal for you to drive. You might get away with it for a little while but as soon as a cop spots it your gone. Also, considering the new hoon laws, if you gave it the tiniest bit of a squirt and were spotted you could probably kiss the car goodbye.

How much longer is left on your P's?

EDIT: Just saw that you were born in 87 so you still have a couple of years to go on your P's. Damn. Will definately be a worthy pickup though mate.

If he is a trusted freind it sounds legit. The lease residual is probably around the 14K mark, sounds right. At that price, do what ever you must to get the money together. Put the car in the shed until you can drive it. You will not get another oportunity like this in a hurry. April will come around soon enough. Good luck with it, I hope it works out OK for you.

Buy it and drive it after removing the turbo badges.....Coppers will leave you along, there is no demerit points for driving the wrong car.

Coppers hear/see it take off or hear the slightest flutter from the BOV (the stockies do make an audible noise) and he is gone, not to mention the fact that a P Plater in an XR6T isnt the best move. Im not having a shot at you personally Tonko351 but I know I would find it hard to resist having a go with a few mates urging me to put the boot in, especially considering that it will be alot more powerful than the majority of P Plate cars.

I saw a black XR6 Turbo on CarSales.com from Kloster Ford Hamilton (Newcastle) and it looked beautiful in the pics, only $21,000, 86,000kms.

Went in to see it and it had leather seats, premium sound, the whole bit.

Only drawback is it was covered, base to apex, in stone chips and scratches. I almost considered forgiving the scratches given it had leather seats which were in perfect condition, but then I noticed rust spots in the sill area between the rear quaterpanels and the bootlid. Car cancer, no way mate.

My guess is either you are making this up, or his car has been in a smash and was a repairable write-off or something like that.

reminds me of a P plater driving a BA with XR6 badges on it and a big HERROD accross the back and twin exhaust.

Read the full story before putting your foot in your mouth.

I did read everything you wrote, but I dont beleive it is the full story.

No one knocks 6 to 10+ grand off a car, even for a mate.

But if it is legit and theres nothing wrong with it, snatch his hand off.

I would say this sounds semi reasonable. you would be surprised at some of the good lease arangements you get.

If 14/15k is all that is left on the lease then go for it. just make sure you debadge the turbo part and put it in your mums name.

Bummer, youre over the power to weight is about 133/tonne and the limit is 125/tonne.

The cops dont pick on the falcons much, the import guys will cop the brunt of the harrassment, i wouldnt let that stop me from getting a great deal like that.

If you dont, let me know so i can pick it up!

You've got a good mate to give it too you for $14K. My XR8 lease will be up in about 12months with $16K residual. I'll be selling it for as much as I can get to finance the next car. I say take advantage of a great opportunity and buy it!!!
