Default Damn, that hurt!!

Totally my fault, and not looking for excuses or sympathy. But I got pipped today for a traffic incident...

Booted from a set of lights where I had been stationary (60 zone) and about 40 meters further on it's 80kph. Gave it no thought, 'till a plain commy was behind me with lights and sirens blazing. "Clocked you at 98 in a 60 driver, any reason for this?" Ummm ahhhh Hmmmm No. Bummer man... But he did write it up at a lower speed, and therefore I keep my license. I must thank the officer for that, as it is my bread and butter. $215 and 3 demerits. Although he did say he would have taken the car if he had the time...

But I still can't believe the pace, 98 in a 60 from standing start within 40 meters. Time to chill the right foot.... : :yeees:

P.S. Had this been a Camera? I would have been walking for a year.

It almost means that whatever people, police, nuns say, folk just don't get it, and ignore - till the HWP 'on patrol' get em.

The speed maximum approaches auto court time:-)

Kev, i was always under the impression that they had to follow for a determined distance to get an accurate reading.
At least he showed a little discretion.

Yeah man, I thought that too. But apparantly the officer is known by someone I know, and he's pretty fair. And the laser system or something like that doesn't need that. Should have been out flying instead, aye? :

We've all been guilty of similar, lesson learned I guess.

From now on you'd better drive like a nana, don't know how long the demerit points last in Aus. And this from a 19yo :P

Could've been worse mate.

police are required to follow you for 5 k before pulling you over and there has to be evidence of you speeding as in hard evidence. also the laser would not have worked as it requires a veichle to move past it in any direction so that the light rays are reflected off it and then a calculation will determine the speed you where doing. as you where driving away from the coppa then it would not have worked. the gun is requied to be stationary as well and if it was a hand held one and was pointed from inside the car the glass would have interfered with the device. BUT as you said the coppa went easy on ya. so its all good. i suppose if you fought the fine he could of done you for dangerous and neg driving. but your lucky.

Not correct. Police in Victoria do not have to maintain equal speed and distance for 5km, just a reasonable time/distance. The laser does not require a vehicle to pass it to get a reading.

The member involved was not moving when he took the reading. Laser does not work from moving vehicles, mobile radar does. In this case a Prolaser 3 laser was used. These devices work fine through windscreens. Fog and dust does play havoc on them though.

Very lucky. Once again, cameras aren't exactly a tool to be trusted, but dealing with people at least gives some realistic leway.

But the moral is "Don't speed dammit!"

Pro Laser 3 is a hand held device, can be used with battery or 12volt adapter. Any police car can be equipped with one although usually only TMU units carry one. They are fairly accurate and easy to use. I have clocked a vehicle speeding over 1.5kms away before.
