in traffic yesterday on kings way (melb) i stopped next to a '78 rolls royce front LTD with diesel powered across the back window and listening to it take off it was definately a diesel. it also sat about 12" higher at the front.

Diesel conversion maybe?
I've seen an FC holden with a diesel conversion before. Dunno who would do it to an LTD though. Definitely one of a kind! |

I think he had to change the diff ratio too as the diesel is quite low revving compared to the 351 it replaced. He didn't really answer WHY he did it though...

there is a 2 door hq monaro going around with a turbo 4 cyl last time i saw it was in scumshine about 3 years ago

Imo a modern diesil will be a GOOD engine for heavier cars ...
Around 4 / 5 litres though...Our new trucks at work are quite quick for 10 / 15 ton, compared to older diesel motors. They have electronic injection similar to petrol engine with much - much higher fuel pressure.. Very good power to weight ratio when empty..With corect gearing fuel consumpsion would be great in passenger car...A turbo diesel would be nice and modern engines are NOT that noisy....

Given that the outright winner of LeMans this year was a diesel, it's fair to say that they can be made to go too.
