Thumbs down Qld election

We got notified at work today that Beatty has called a 9 Sept election.

Don't mind about the election, just that we're now in caretaker mode and all things that were approved last week will probably be rejected when we try to implement them as they "may be challenged if there is a change in government". Talk about making my life hard - I'm a Project Coordinator with a major infrastructure department.

If we change parties then all our very senior management will probably go as well - we've got enough of them swapping depts as it is! Just when you train one, they leave!

Think yourself lucky we live in a democratic society, and we actually get a chance to have a say in who runs the country/state. :yeees:

Would you be willing to disclose the area you work in?

There has been some interesting policies coming from a large party at the federal level regarding my industry (financial regulation) which has some dire consequences for the organisation i work for.

Having said this, it's the nature of the beast.

The toughest part to deal with is the fact that people will be voting on the "election issues" which the parties and the media decide are the "real" issues... i doubt poor old regulatory policy wouldnt even be factor in most people's votes.

But like i said - its the nature of the beast working for an agency like this!

Democracies dont work cause someone always wants to be the boss. Communism would work if everybody was equal, but unfortunately in all communism, some are more equal than others.
Socialism, that would work except who's going to do the work to pay for it.

Oh well, I guess as long as humans are running the world, nothing works, its every man, woman and child for themselves.

Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it.
Fortunately I don't have to agree with it.
If I feel like using a picture to express my opinion, then I will! (Unless the Mods/Admins have an issue. Let me know!)
If you have a problem with my posts, please feel free to report me.

I reckon he'll get back but with a reduced majority...the other mob have to pick up dbl digit seats to even get a look in.

Considering there has just been a leader change will make it interesting.

Yes, interesting indeed. I again preface this by saying to moderators I am not intending to be politically provocative, but I heard this morning on the news that our premier Mike Rann may throw his hat in the ring for the national ALP president's job. He also added that he wished to support Mr Beazley in his bid for victory at the next federal election. Now it is indeed interesting that whilst locally popular here in SA, Mr Rann would not have the public profile that Mr Beazley has (whether it be good or bad). So what influence could a state premier (albeit a very popular one) have on the fate of a federal contender for the top job? Answer: (I think) if Mr Rann gets to be National ALP President, he may implement a new agenda to have the party at a federal level start pitching towards policy/planning/getting in touch with the electorate which made him successful at a state level. What is additionally interesting is that SA's Labor government comprises not only Labor folk, but also former Liberal, Independent and National Party members. What may the future hold for the ALP at a national level if Mr Rann gets to head it? And what shape might a future Labor federal government take under the guidance of an innovative state premier such as Mr Rann? A space well worth watching I think!

My first impression after reading the first post wasnt 'oh another political thread that will get closed down' but 'gee the interrelation between the executive and legislative branch of government really causes problems for those long-term government department employees who are not employed as long as they hold a seat in the parliament'

I dont know if that made sense, but it does to me lol! :

Basically, i dont think punkin was airing a political viewpoint, there was no mallace towards one party or another, the thread is about government not politics. Some people were nice and quick to attack her and tell her to get over it, but it seems for the wrong reasons. :

Geez let another forum member vent her frustrations that the separation of powers in this country didnt exactly separate the government departments from the members of parliament, causing problems for those that have to still get work done in departments that, no doubt, someone else will complain about in the next thread.

Jennifer

This election will be dammed. Nah sorry, Im just taking the urine out of it.

Peters not popular in this neck of the woods. Wasnt before this anyway, most members in the region are lib, so wont matter much to the result.
