Angry Bloody dog keeps using the carpet as a toilet.

Hi guys,

I've got a little Jack Russel/Fox Terrier mutt who's about seven months old. We've put up with him ****ing all over the house and just had the carpets cleaned professionally. Anyway, the little bugger came in as the cleaner was finishing, and in front of everyone took another **** on the carpet!!!

He is driving us insane. The weird part is, he will go outside and do his business several times, and no less than two minutes later he's back in ****ing again. As a last resort, he's going to have to stay outside - but I'd like to think we won't have to succumb to that.

When he does it outside we applaud him and make him know he's done the right thing but he just will not bloody learn. He sleeps in the laundry and we put down newspaper for him that he uses..

Help!

Thanks

Rub his face in it and get angry at him and use swear words! Has worked for both my dogs whichare the same breed as yours. Make sure you use swear words though because they remember them and they will be scared when they hear an 'F' word and eventually will learn. Oh the joy of training a pup.

Gday Mate

Same thing with my Jack Russell/Fox Terrier cross, after some $3000 in carpet cleaning gear, dog off products, chili and electrodes, I finally managed to train my guy to go outside.

It took 6 months.

You need to take him outside every 30 minutes until he lets rip, then give him a treat.

Don't punish him for doing it inside.

You can buy pads, the size of small mats, that soaks up his No1, that may be another option to train him inside.

Or you can set the newspaper outside after he has gone on it so he can identify the smell.

You can use a water spray and deter him from going inside if you can catch him in time.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE THAT IS THE ONLY CORRECT ACTION. DO NOT USE SPK -383'S ADVICE.

SPK advice does work..
Laminges is the better way to do it.

We used to have lots of dogs, sometimes upto 7 at a time.. and I often used chilli powder to stop them and it worked.. but its a lengthy process especially in a big house lol.

We had that problem with our Jack Russell, and every time she did anything inside we'd rub her nose in it, or if we saw her in time, shout no!!, then we'd ask her if she wanted to go, and take her outside.

Now she gets up and walks herself to the door if she wants to go, and waits until we let her out.

Sister just picked up an 8 week old yorkshire terrier ... and it stays here through out the day until it gets a little bit older. Im home on annual leave and ever hour or two, I'll let her out-side, and she'll do her business. Everytime she goes inside, Ill bring her over to where im cleaning up her mess and make her watch me clean it up ... She has obviously now got the idea that going inside is wrong.

We have had our puppy 2 months and it never goes inside anymore.

It must be one of the smart ones. It will even wake Mum up in the middle of the night to be let outside, it will go straight away and run back inside when done.

In the beginning we would catch it in the act and yell at it and take it outside. Its terrified of loud noises so that stopped it I think.

Agreed... positive reinforcement is the go here. Hopefully both you and the dog end up in a better mood going about it this way.

We used a product called Wee Wee pads... they worked well and didn't take long for my dog to catch on what to do.

I must say I have rubbed there nose in it, but be carefull not to go overboard...
If the pup can stay with its mother alittle longer, Mum actually teaches them...
Not # 2's but showing the dog where to do it outside helps...
If dog is locked inside? You can't realy blame the dog...
One of those small dog entry flap doors are good idea.. Off laundry ???

THAT is abuse. And cruel. The fact that it works and that many people do it does not make it less abusive or cruel.

If you have a two year old child who you are toilet training, who is still weeing and pooing on the floor, would you rub his face in it and yell at him? I hope not! Well I wouldnt! Even if it was going to work and all my mates did it.

The thing that people like you seem to do is confuse TEACHING with PUNISHMENT. I bet the dog is not confused. He just thinks he is being punished for something he didnt do, plain and simple.

You need a licence to drive a car, but no requirement to have a pet (or to have kids for that matter).

Kids weeing etc on the floor? Why would that surprise anyone? Or do you think they are born toilet trained??? I wish!

Unfortunately for parents, babies in most species, particularly humans, dont have the brain, nerve and muscle development to hold on in time to get to the loo or outside or whatever for some time... even if they could intellectually be ready for it. Its just life and as a parent, you just get over it, deal with it and focus on more important things...

What do you think would happen if a baby didnt wear a nappy????

Wouldn't worry me, as I would be at work and his mum would be doing the cleaning... seriously and invalid argument!

Well ok then, I will concede the argument in this special circumstance and make special allowance just for you Gary!

*XRchic has a lot of trouble imagining Gary changing nappy.... should have let Gary have a go with Toby, on our recent visit!!!!*

I thought that was the whole point of having nappies.

Cant they be toilet trained while still in them?

I can honestly not remember ever going to the toilet on the floor of my house. :Reverend: Im going to ask my Mum what she did when I get home.

Surely there is an easier way!

They have nappies until they are mature enough physically and mentally to control it and go elsewhere. No, they cannot be toilet trained in nappies, sort of defeats the purpose.

So you have never heard of a kid toilet training, needing to go to the loo and not making it?

I dont remember specifically weeing on the floor of my house when I was two, but then I dont remember much of when I was two anyway...

But the same basic principals apply to dogs though, they just have to learn a new skill over time. You dont scream at your kids when they dont learn to read quick enough, so why yell at a dog when they dont learn toilet training instantly?

Edit: yes, there are things which make toilet training easier, like having a few little plastic potties around the house for accessibility, and prompting them to go before they feel they need to.. things like that. But accidents inevitably happen and its just part of life.

Have your removed his nuts. Its properly pull him into line. A friends dog started going outside for his business once this happened. I would take him to a vet to do it. Its a simple and easy operation anyone can do if you ever done it before. Same as castrating bull calfs etc.

This is what i did but a little more toned down. Just loud firm words and Almost rub his face in it...just make it uncomfortable for them. Mine is a Ridgeback wich is a very smart dog, and she learned in a couple of days. She now just sits at the door nudging it till u let her out. She is a tatal house dog :1syellow1

the mentality of the dog is that of pleasing the pack leader. (pack leader = you) get angry and smack the floor. The pup will associate the wet floor with an unhappy pack leader. the pup will then do what it can not to upset the leader= not wet on floor. this also works for digging holes. I was once outside giving a hole a severe talking to, the dog was looking at me, most upset. the neighbour looking over the fence was also very interested.

When i say rub their nose in it i don't mean mash it into the carpet! I guarentee if you show them what they did and use a loud stern voice at the same, he will learn in less than a week that it's not the right thing. Once you have shown him what he has done put him outside and wait for him to pee, then praise him for doing it on the grass or what ever. GUARANTEE IT! Dont give him a treat when he pee's cause then he'll do it anywhere to get one.

Don't let the dog inside the house and you won't have dog pee on your carpet. :

Like I said, just because it works doesnt mean it isnt cruel and that other methods wouldnt work better.

My first comment might have been a bit over zealous but i was only trying to get a giggle out of all you. My plan of action might be a bit brutal to some of you but it's not as i learnt from my aunty and uncle who used to run a dog school. I have picked up a few things along the way myself though. Before we had a dog door both of our dogs would try the hardest to wake us up in the middle of the night so they could go outside to do their business. Now we know we they go out because all we hear is clank, clank, clank from the dog door. Seriously good value they are.

Probably the most rewarding things for dogs is FOOD!!

Reward your jack russell with a smako if he goes to the toilet outside and spend the time patting him and telling him he's a good boy.

How many 2 year olds poo and we on the floor?

And just so you know 3 of my mates have used my advice on puppies they have got in the last couple of years and they are stoked with the results.
The way that i teach goes way deeper than just rubbing the pups nose in it and yelling at it. Like i said i was trying to get a giggle. It's all part of the larger scheme of TRAINING a pup/dog to be OBEDIENT.

Only use food when you are trying to get the dog to do something that you want, like sit, stay, lay down etc etc.
I dont mean to sound like a know-it-all, but other than fiddling with cars, Dogs/pups are the only thing i'm good at acheiving results with.

I just yelled at my dog when I caught him in the act. If I just found the little puddle I used to soak it up and then put the wet paper towel outside so my dog knew that that is where the pee is meant to be. I never yelled at the dog after he had peed cause he wouldn't have known why I was getting angry at him. I only got angry if I caught him in the act. Sometimes he would be curious as to what I was doing when I cleaned up the mess and he would follow me outside with the paper towels and sniff them too. He learnt very quickly and now just sits at the door waiting to be let outside. Sometimes he even nudges the door open by himself.
