Default Brisbane Hairdresser A Third Generation Female Drag Racer

A Brisbane hairdresser will become the third generation of female drag racers when she swaps scissors and shears for a dose of fuel charged
excitement this weekend at Queensland's Willowbank Raceway.

Twenty-three year old Sally Reed will travel at speeds close to 200 km/h over the quarter mile during her competition debut, as she lines up to challenge for honours in the super competitive Modified category as part
of a featured Funny Car extravaganza.

Ironically one of the headliners on Saturday night's bill will be Sally's father Steve. He'll contest a match race series against fellow Queensland
heavyweight Brett Stevens in their Top Alcohol Funny Cars.

This week the pint sized beauty was at the Willowbank strip for one final hit out before embarking on an historic re-entry into the sport, a sport that's quickly gaining a foothold with a lot of young Queensland
women.

"To be a third generation female drag racer, following in the footsteps of my grandmother Nelma and mum Debbie is very special and I'm not aware of any other families being able to boast such a rare distinction."

"There'll no doubt be some expectations, but as long as I can make Mum
and Dad proud I'll be happy.

"When mum updated her car last season it allowed me to take over her old car and now there's a combination of nerves and excitement toward this
weekend.

"I've only previously raced in the junior ranks for two years where I won a few meetings but that was about eight or nine years ago so this is
a very exciting time for me," said Reed.

Not unlike many other talented young ladies moving through the drag racing ranks, Reed has a strong pedigree in the sport and an internal
drive to succeed at the highest level.

"The Modified category is the virtual stepping stone into Group One competition and there are already a couple of girls making their mark plus a few others coming through Junior Dragster so that's a great thing
for women in motorsport.

"For me the bigger picture will hopefully see us find our feet and gain valuable experience this season and then put a blower on the dragster
and move up to Supercharged Outlaws."

Steve and Debbie Reed are now both now well entrenched among the front-runners in the Group One Top Alcohol category, after following in
the footsteps of Steve's parents, Jim and Nelma.

Brother Daniel is also well credentialed as a back-to-back Supercharged
Outlaws champion at Willowbank Raceway.

The potential now exists for future mother/father and brother/sister rivalries to take hold in both Top Alcohol and Supercharged Outlaws
competition at Willowbank Raceway.

"It'd be awesome to come up against Daniel when I finally break into Outlaws some time in the future, but I'm sure he'd get his nose out of
joint if I was to come out and beat him," joked Sallly.

"It was only a couple of weeks ago that Mum beat Dad for the first time during qualifying, not once, but twice at the one event so that was a
very exciting time for the Reed girls."

This Saturday's Willowbank Raceway debut of Sally Reed is billed on a nitro powered Funny Car spectacular that will feature a three-race match
up between Ash Bailey and Ricky Monserrat.
