i was just wondering if this irks anyone else having Brisbane turned into all manner of 'funny' names to make it sound more interesting or whatever. i dont really mind that its all american, but i kind have this, pride, i spose youd call it for my city and i dont like it being misrepresented or people thinking its something its not.

I like it.
I like to think of Brisvegas as a pet name for the City I live in and love. Brisneyland makes me laugh, but I don't use it myself. Brisvegas all the way!

The term Brisvegas is as old as the hills, first appearing when Queensland was the poker-machine state.
Get over it, Simmo. How can you misrepresent Brisbane? Too big to wear a cowboy hat to work, too small for there to be anything interesting going on...

I don't mind the little names people decide to call Brisbane. It's still the same place.

Yeah, i think you need a holiday Simmo... I love nicknames for everything and to me, Brisvegas, Brisneyworld, Brisneyland, Bristropolis or anything else you can think of is just great..

not suffering from anything at the moment. i just really dig Brisbane for what it is, an oversized country town. its exactly as nick said. big enough for metro losers, small enough to wear thongs to the movies.

Good things about Brisbane:
- Cheaper living than Sydney or Melbourne - Nice-ish inner city - Not important enough to be a target for anything - No fear of getting beaten to death for your shoes* - Relatively hot chicks Bad things about Brisbane: - Can't buy a carton after 11pm on a Friday night - Strange, listless, can't-be-bothered Brisbane mentality (could be heat-related) - People think it's OK to wear thongs to the movies - Poker machines killed live music - XXXX *note: The fact that someone was beaten to death for his Nike's in Albert St 6 months ago is the exception that proves this rule. I don't mind it here, but it's nothing to get excited about. As Andrew McGahan said in Praise - Brisbane is just a place where people are because they're not somewhere else yet...

Mate, a) you missed an "X" and b) XXXX is without a doubt the second worst beer in Australia... If I wasn't such a dyed-in-the-wool Queenslander, I'd probably stop drinking it...

Simmo, Simmo, Simmo - you are uncultured in the ways of Beer... VB stands for (apart from Very Bad) "Victoria Bitter"... A real Queenslander will always drink XXXX, brewed in Castlemaine St, Milton since 1842.

The fact that this thread is now about beer outlines just some of the things that are both great and terribly, terribly wrong with being a Queenslander...

beggers cant be choosers.
We have our own variant of XXXX in SA, called West End Draught. Its made from pure murray water mixed with the remains of the Beaumont Children, carbonated and injected into frosty sideways South Australians.

Well, there's an old story about two blokes in the Pineapple Hotel who were arguing about whether XXXX Draught or XXXX Gold was the best beer ever. They decided in the end to send two stubbies off to the CSIRO for testing for purity, nutritional value etc.
Weeks later, a response came back, and they stood in the front bar to open it... It was a one-page letter. "Thank you for sending in your samples. We regret to inform you that both Clydesdale stallions are far too old to work."

So I'm not allowed to disagree with you now? Or try to share knowledge? Are you really my girlfriend, posting under a pseudonym?
