There was an article back in December 2015 about a woman on the Gold Coast who blew 0.48.
The article on the Gold Coast Woman: http://www.news.com.au/national/quee...3cd3335e4d0f43 Here is a woman from Coffs Harbour who is going for the record. Quote:

0.48?! Geez, between 0.35 and 0.40 is considered a fatal dose. It's amazing she could function at all, let alone put herself behind the wheel of a car.

So, her blood itself contained more alcohol than straight Vodka?
Insane.... Heard on the radio that the machines to read this only go to .500! Having said that, I wonder what her 2nd test read? If she had been drinking and driving a quick swill just prior to the test could have shown an incorrectly high reading.

Nah vodka would read at 37.0, where this lady is 0.48. It's still super high, but she'd need to drink 100x more than she did to get the walking vodka bottle levels

If she is .48 isn't that 48%???? Much the same as .05 is 5% which is why a lady can have 1 beer or around 5% per hr to stay on / near .05. 1.0 would be 100% So if vodka is 37% alcohol wouldn't it be .37?? Anyone can clarify / shed light on this???

Yep... got a mate that could get you drunk by taking a whiff of his breath after a night on the grog!

Most people around here drive like they have that much alcohol in their system.
I think the 0.486 means the person has 0.486grams of alcohol per 100ml of blood ?

I think that last bit about the bloke in Poland is a typo, should be .48 not 1.48.

0.48 IS the percentage. Her bloodstream was 0.48% pure alcohol, so therefore 99.52% blood (water, and whatever else makes up a bloodstream) 0.05 is not 5% its 0.05%. If 37% vodka could be passed through a policemans breathalyser it'd read 37.00. |

Re the second reading
one time I had a beer with the boss after work I drank the stubbie of full strength beer then drove towards home about 100 metres down the road I was pulled up and asked to blow in the bag well I was told I was way over when asked if Id been drinking I said yes Id had one beer with the boss and was told by the testing cop that I had had about 6 beers I told him no way and its legal to drive with one beer in you so I asked him to test me again and he made me wait 15 minutes and I blew in the bag again and he told me to Pi$$ off and dont do it again so maybe she had 2 different readings John |

The machine they push thru your window is just a preliminary test, if you fail it you will be retested with a more actuate machine with the option of a blood test.
Also if you’ve just been drinking a 10 minute wait to allow the alcohol in your mouth to dissipate before retesting is mandatory. This woman was admitted to hospital and placed into a coma, she would have undergone mandatory blood testing in the hospital for a range of substances. |

Imagine 1/5th of your blood being pure alcohol That would mean about a full litre or more of pure alcohol in your blood stream, or about 3 or 4 bottles of vodka 100% absorbed into your bloodstream The prescribed concentration of alcohol is a concentration of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. So at a reading or 0.21 it would mean that the person has 0.21 grammes of alcohol (about 1/5th of a gram or a tiny drop) in 100 millilitres of blood, the fabled person in Poland had 1.48 grammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres. It has nothing to do with percentages.
