Hey all
I am a little bit concerned after driving down the highway today. Driving down the Western ring road, overhead variable speed signs displayed 40km so I slowed to 40. As usual there was some road works ahead (when isn't there on the western). Anyway at the end of the road works there was a truck that had a sign that said something along the lines of end of road works and all lanes opened up. I began accelerating, I was going about 80km when I drove under a sign which had cameras on it. About 100m further the overhead signs displayed 100km. Is there a chance I am going to get done for a 40km over ticket? Because regardless of what the temp signs say I imagine the camera's go off the variable speeds. |

Yes, the cameras reset to what the variable sign with the red circle says. The speed signs normally flashes if its a lower speed than normal.
Sorry to say, but you might be in trouble as you shouldn't accelerate to the higher speed until you pass the higher speed sign, regardless of a truck showing an end of roadworks sign. Its their way of sucking in drivers to fine them. Its happened before on the Ring road at roadworks when they were packing up, but many drivers still got fined. |

This is probably a good reason to have a dash cam in the car to take a recording of the actual situation and send it to the TV stations, to show how unfair they really are.
I would keep an eye on newspapers such as the Herald-Sun where readers write in on instances like this, which then gets discussed. I've never had a fine in the last 30 years (touchwood) so I'm not sure what the process is for appealing these days. |

I would say you are OK, doubt you have a fine.

Are the cameras on the bridges point to point or instant?

It was 9pm at night and I didn't see any flashes of light, a mate said you would know if it flashed. Apparently they are very bright

Speed cameras in variable zones should have the camera jus before the lower speed sign so it shows the reduced speed in the picture as well?
