Rear wheels fit fine, front wheels studs too short??

Just picked up some 5 slot jelly beans to fit to my ZH, the rears fit fine however the front studs barely make it past the lip of the holes on the rim to get the wheel nut on. They're just standard nuts, not tapered or anything. Has anyone had a similar issue or know how to overcome this? I'm pretty desperate as I need them on for a RWC ASAP!

Long shank wheel nuts bud. Bob Jane ect will order them in for you

getting in first DO NOT DRIVE IT with normal wheel nuts , besides destroying your rims , they will snap wheel studs ...take your standard nut and rim to a tyre dealer they will give you the correct nuts

If I remember correctly with those old wheels the wheel nuts actually go through the hole of the mags.

the wheel stud should barely stick out and the wheel nut goes through the wheel as a firm fit , was going to add a pic.. but i think you will get the idea , look at the rim just sitting on car and see the gap around wheel studs ... that is filled with the correct wheel nut with a sleeve looking bit on it as part of the nut , google wheel nut images and you will see the difference between tapered nut and alloy wheel nut ..

the walls of the nut would have to be quite thin though as theres not much room there for the sleeve of the tapered nut.

yer they are not real thick ... throw up picks or go to tyre place , but definately dont run em if the thread doesnt come right through the nut ...nuts are cheap and they will give you the right ones ..

I've got dragways on the EF and i found i needed 2 washers.

If all four wheels are the same then this is what i can't figure out, you should be able to rotate your rims without having to worry about "special" front only wheel nuts....

Sounds to me like someone has been dicking around with the car sometime in it's past. Take it down to your nearest wheel and tyre joint, if they are good enough they should be able to put you on the right track.....

Different manufacturer of the rims? Jelly beans were made by 2 or 3 different companies, therefore they would have a different thickness centre of the rim. (They varied slightly in looks)

Do you have different width rims, front to rear? Might explain a few things too..

Providing you have wheel nuts like JIMSTONE posted up, they are fine to fit. They don't have to have the stud poking out....Just the right sort of wheel nut...

Oh and when you put the wheel nut on, make sure they do up tight, and don't have a gap between the washer and rim face, otherwise you may have to put an extra washer on the ones that are loose (as ADO351C mentioned)

Make sure the centre bore diameter of the front rims is large enough to sleeve over the raised boss in the centre of your front hubs (ford 70.6mm)

Just incase they have been fitted to a Toyota at some stage check to make sure someone hasn't left some hub adapter rings in place too (Toyota 67.2mm)

EF/EL have the longest wheel studs, out of all the Falcons etc made by ford

Be careful as mentioned earlier there was a change in front hub size from XB to XC,
some early mag designs have the early smaller hub centres and don't quite seat home on the spiggot.

If this is the problem, putting longer studs on could be very dangerous....

The Jellybeans I have require a straight mag wheel nut and washer, not a tapered nut at all. You shouldn't need longer studs if you have the correct nut for those wheels.

they arent Valiant alloy jelly beans by any chance?
they use a tapered style wheel nut, that fits inside the alloy rim too.
can you post up some pictures of the rims you are trying to fit?

If memory serves, the change was actually made part way thru the XB therefore a ZH should only have large hubs?

It's an extremely important to get this right though. Could be that the rear diff was replace with an earlier small center one and the OP's jellys are small center.

it's all sorted, i just swapped them - i had taken 2 of the wrong ones from mu pal when i bought them. 2 off a ford & 2 off a valiant.
