bf xr6t VS 75 XB fairmont GS

hey guys, im selling my 2005 bf xr6t and ive been made an offer on a straight swap for a 75 xb fairmont gs.

The fairmont in question is an original fairmont (matching numbers) 302 v8 with cam and stall, resrpayed original blue 8 years back, paint is in great condition, no rust apart from some light surface rust near the boot, interior is immac, 250,000 orig kilometers, has GT 12 slotters (original) and a original GT shaker. It looks to be in excellent condition but im new to these sort of cars and ive only just started getting into them so im not sure if im selling myself short on the trade.

My car is a 2005 bf xr6 turbo, silver, 6spd manual, mostly standard, 110,000k's.

im thinking of just keeping the xb as a weekender btw so i understand it wont be a great daily. Just after some info on what you guys think about the trade.. thanks

If it was me i wouldn't do it as a straight swap but as a bit of cash your way swap. That's my opinion on the matter anyway.

Yep unless its in exceptional condition or your XR6T is really bad a few thou your way, XB GS are not super rare yet but will be in a 10~20 years!
If there's surface rust there will be some more somewhere unseen...
It will depend on what you wish to do with the XB, paying through the nose for a exceptional condition car usually will cost less in the long run especialy if your paying for body and paint work to be redone!

I think you're selling yourself short.

Best to ask this question in the Classic section, but I wouldn't be keen on paying more that $12K for that car as you've described.

You can get bf parts and upgrades even at woolworths.

I follow XA XB and XC pretty close.
A nice example of a GS XB would be either side of 15k depending on condition of course, rust etc. Could even be around 20 with some examples.
It's a matching numbers car, some people say big deal, but trust me it is a big deal, especially when it comes time to sell. Even you are considering it because it's a matching number.
Not sure what your BF so I cant compare.
All I can say is go for it, there's heaps of BF's on the road and you hardly get a 2nd look, but in the GS, little kids will stop in the street and wave at you and middle aged men will look and sigh, then hang their head in disappointment saying under their breath " I had one of those, should never have sold it".
Problem is using it as a daily driver, parts arent that bad except panels, so if you bend it you will have to scounge around, but they are out there.

Your XR6 should be worth at least $15k, maybe more depending on mileage, options, and condition. $15k will get you a bloody nice XB.
Beside unless you really WANT the XB and that was your plan all along, why bother with a swap? Better off selling your car and looking for the car you WANT.

The XB plus 5-7k your way and that is a deal I'd do.
The XB will have a lot more character than the xr6t too, and with the 5-7k your way you could upgrade a few bits on that 302 to lively her up, maybe do the brakes and suspension, etc.

Way I see it is the BA will be worth less tomorrow and then again the day after and so on.
XB will retain value.

The prices of old cars fluctuates a lot too.

Ok well it appears I've over estimated the value of Xb fairmonts. Thanks for the info guys , might hold onto the bf and continue trying to sell it.

Every one keeps looking future financial gain
Maybe looks
For a daily the BA would be the choice
Itll do everything the XB can , but have air, mod cons return better power, economy,maybe even cheaper on insurance
Yes the BA will depreciate , but thats not really in the equation when the XB will be a daily ,coping day to day abuse,reliability issues ect
For me bang for buck, the BA id keep ,unless some serious coin thrown your way

A BF XR6 is worth between 14-20g....


A XB GS will fetch the same, if not more...

Why are poeple thinking someone is getting ripped?

No harm in trying to wrestle out 3-5 grand or so, but you'll be crazy to pass up a GS...

Unless you really want an XB four door, I'd just plod along with the sale for cash. If you can't sell the BF .. then at worse, you have a BF X66 Turbo to drive around; doesn't sound too aweful to me

check the xb for rust and check it well.i have seen quite a few xr6 torbos for sale for 10-15k so if the xb is a realy good car id do the deal.price a good v8 fairmont gs you maybe supprised as we are not talking about a 6cyl falcon 500.
if you dont know much about xb's get someone who does to check it out for you.
