Default Hyundai Veloster from $23,990

http://www.caradvice.com.au/157399/h...ed-from-23990/

Not bad, it has an impressive feature list, even for the base model on Hyundai's website. I might go down to the dealership to check one out I think, has me really interested, comes in 6sp manual even in top spec, even the base model has a 7" touch screen etc. More on Hyundai's website:

http://www.hyundai.com.au/Vehicles/V...fication-Range

Looks nice in Orange and Green, the wheels even have body coloured inserts.

107KW isn't too bad either.

When I heard about it having 3 doors, I thought it would look a bit sus, but I'm rather impressed actually, plus it has a high level of equipment.

I don't know if I could ever go back to the lack of torque of a non diesel petrol 4 cylinder though, my Focus feels like it hauls *** when in reality its slow as crap.

I liked the Veloster when it was unveiled. A lot.

I liked it a bit more when I saw the U.S. pricing of it - it was $5k - $10k cheaper than I was expecting.

Now, with the kit available in the base model AND the $24k starting price, I think Hyundai might just have won my sale over a new Focus! :O

Hopefully the turbo will only be a couple grand more than the top spec ATMO version. Top spec turbo for $35k = win.

I think it looks ghastly , when all is said and one its still just another front wheel drive buzz box and at $35,000.00 I'd much rather buy an XR6 .

Well it's certainly got it easy in terms of competition:

Integra, Prelude, Celica, FTO, Supra, Tiburon, Calibra, Probe, Cougar, NSX, Gazelle and several others I can't remember are all deceased.

Who are its competitors? Everyone is buying lame hatchbacks these days, no-one is buying sports coupes. Is that because no-one is making them?

You've got Honda CR-Z, Hyundai Veloster just released, and I think Kia Koup is all we've got on the new market, the Kia isn't very good engine and equipment wise as its a few years old now, all it has going for it is looks.

Back in the 90s it seemed Toyota and Honda where in their peak, they had sports coupes, even though Honda where FWD, they're still the bench mark for handling to this day, case in point DC2 Integra Type R.

Honda CR-Z is very expensive, I think $30K plus, and standard equipment isn't very good, it has some cool stuff like a little economy game built into the cluster, it goes green when you drive sedately and if you go up a "level" little trees and crap grow, but who cares about that if the rest of the car is average, lol.

I think this Hyundai is offering the best in terms standard equipment and features, 7" touch screen is awesome, the Veloster + can play DiVX files, so if you want to watch your downloaded porn in your car, you can .

It has me interested, might check out my local dealership today, I like the Orange and Green. I wonder what the trade-in value is on my LV Focus, as I'm genuinely interested.

I'd driven a Tiburon before when I was working at Honda which I took to follow a salesman delivering a new car to a customer, very rough engine, I think it was a 2.7L V6, it went OK but it was a 4sp auto and someone hadn't bled the brakes properly so I had a real spongy pedal. That was before Hyundai came out with the quality i30 though.

It's aimed at the hot hatch market. Similar to the FT86/BRZ.

Comparing this car to an XR6 is like comparing drinking a nice chocolate milk shake to drinking a load of gravel.

What I love is how a 24K car can offer features not even available in the 80K FPV models, and people still asking what is the Falcon not selling well ...

E.G:
Driver one-touch auto up/down incorporating anti-pinching safety feature
Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) (DCT Only)
Hyundai Active Locking Operation (HALO)
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

I also had a look at the MK2 Falcon, but I've got an EL Ghia so not too interested. But the 8" screen appeals.

Looked at the new Focus but diesel didn't come in manual so deal breaker and not enough tech features screen and iinavigation is only 5".

Well I saw this thread this morning, and so I thought I would pop down to the local hyundai dealer in Rockhampton to see if they had one, seeing as the gf wants a new car anyway, it was a good excuse. They just got an orange one in today, and and I have to say it looks sensational in the metal. It's comfortable to sit in and the quality of the fit and finish is better then then most of the other cars we have been looking at.

If this is the same platform as the Kia Rio I recently drove then it should be a a very decent drive too. It has the same 1.6 litre and 6 speed manual so mid 6s fuel economy in everyday driving should be the go too.

Only weighs 1180kg.

Unfortunately the turbo version is out for me because of the powers that be, so its going to be the standard 1.6L engine for me.

I can't wait to actually sit in one and drive it, being only 1180kg, this sounds promising.

I'm a bit iffy on the 18" wheels though, they might be a bit big for my crappy country roads.
