Default Poverty Pack Land Cruiser... $80 000 ?!!?!?

Hardly seems worth the effort does it?
Toyota must be crazy to think that $80 000 is a reasonable price for a povo pack landcruiser???

How about getting rid of the complex V8 in which the starter motor is buried inside the manifold (which I was told Toyota allows 8 to 12hrs to remove)??

http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor...906-1juuc.html

Quote:

LandCruiser will go back to basics for a cheaper variant created for mining companies.

Toyota to strip LandCruiser for mining duties.

Toyota will respond to strong demand from mining companies by reinstating a stripped-back version of its evergreen four-wheel-drive, the LandCruiser.

The revived "standard grade" model will be fitted with a 4.5-litre turbo diesel V8 and a six-speed auto and is set to retail for under $80,000, up to $10,000 less than the current base diesel model.

To save costs, it will come with vertically opposed "barn" doors, basic cloth seats and vinyl floors, as well as missing out on Landcruiser luxury touches such as push-button start, premium audio and a centre console-mounted fridge.

Toyota's senior executive director of sales and marketing, David Buttner, says even the door trims will be missing a cloth lining. "It's really, really stripped back," he says.

"Our dealers and a lot of the mines have been asking for it. We used to have a "standard grade" model years ago and we went away from it.

"It's mainly for mines but also some tradespeople. But the request mainly came from mines."

The as-yet-unnamed new LandCruiser model will be available in Australia from November and Buttner says a prototype is already in Australia.

"I had a look last week at the trial-build one out here in Australia and it's a good utilitarian vehicle," he says.

Toyotas have always been expensive. I know back in 05 we I was selling new Toyotas the RRP of a couple of vehicles were at 100 grand and that was before the gov and dealer added there bit. I am betting you would be driving away from most dealers in one of these for under 80 grand

This new cruiser is a filling the hole of the 105 Standard, as well 80 Series Standard.

The Troop carrier has always been around whilst these were available. Two different markets...

I thought a couple of years ago the base cruiser was ~$60,000....and air conditioning was optional....

Most of the people I know who used to own Land Cruiser now have either a Kluger or Prado.

i cant believe they put a v8 into a pc because those things fall over super easy and they certainly dont need more power.

In about the same time I bought a house in Dubbo for $105k. I can still remember the agent saying "About the same price as a top of the line 'Cruiser, but with a bit more space".........

Either way, I wouldn't pay 80k for that sort of vehicle unless it was an absolute necessity. There is probably a handful of other vehicles that are pretty close for 20-30 grand less.

79 is a much smaller vehicle, as well as being a more 'hardcore', thus lacks features of the 200 series like IFS and KDSS.

Yes, they may be able to cross the Sahara desert without flinching, but there is absolutely nothing luxurious about them. A base model and it's still 80k?!

No it's not, the 79 Series replaces the 75 which in turn replaced the 40/45s. The mines i worked on all had 40/45 series alongside 60s, 75 series alongside 80/100 and so on. The last mine i worked on where my brother still works has 79 series troopys/utes and 200s

The 70 Series is a family of Toyota Land Cruiser models produced from 1984 until the present day. It replaced the 25 year old 40 Series as the off-road workhorse of the Land Cruiser heritage, while the 60 Series (and later the 80, 90, 100 and 200 Series) developed into more comfortable passenger off-road vehicles. Despite major changes in styling and numerous technological updates, the 70 Series was designed to retain the off-road capabilities and durability for which the 40 Series had become known.

Toyota had to make alot of changes on the new model 79's as the mines couldn't use them because of the no airbag feature they had. Still very basic and for a v8 turbo they are gutless. Still wind up windows lol

You do realise you do not have to buy one?

They seem to sell lots of them so obviously someone thinks they are good value.

On the other hand I have had more than one person question $60k++ for an entry level FPV stating it is not a "luxury car", just a taxi with a V8 engine.......

People see different value in different things.

What we don't have to buy one? "really" well i'll be. Doesn't mean we can't have an opinion on it. What are you really getting for 80 grand? That and the fpv and anything else you used to be able to by a house for is the reason i'll never buy a new car.

They can sell them for 80K cause people buy them, why drop the price when they sell heaps of them. This new "base" model 200 series will sell by the boat load to the mines. People have been crying out for a auto base spec car and will love it. The 70 series which is smaller than the 200 series only has a single turbo v8 and no auto option.

In the USA it's all F250's, ford Excursions/Expeditions and the equivalent Chevy offerings, Toyota never get a look in.
Then again the abovementioned cars in the USA make the 200 series landcruiser look really small.
Ford USA, send some of your trucks and 4x4's over here.

This new 200 is only getting single turbo from what i've heard.

The lack of airbag was the main reason the 7x series cant be used in the mines.

70 series has had airbags for a couple of years now and are being used extensively in the mines, primarily the utes.

According to this article the existing twin turbo v8 and auto will be used.

Id have a F truck over anything offered in this country
The ol 7.3 Turbo diesel F trucks have more pulling power than a cruiser would dream of

There was a story goin around where i used to live , that apparently a bloke in his new cruiser went to an importer to buy an F truck

"Id like to trade me cruiser in on a F truck",

Seller,
"Ya mean ya want me to trade your cruiser as a deposit on the F truck"
Kinda thought that was funny

The mines will love these as well as governments / police...

There has definately been a void in the market, the only positive thing to come is the fact that there will be lots of them at the auctions potentially pulling toyotas strong resale values down a touch!

Been hearing some companys are looking at alternatives as Toyota cant get their cars over here quick enough to meet demand. Step dad is getting a Navara or Ranger as his company car as Toyota cannot supply in time.
