Default Spotted: ford testing convoy on Hume

Saw a testing convoy yesterday as I was driving to Melbourne. Amongst the convoy was a GT badged Falcon with a heavily disguised front bar and a motherload of monitoring equipment mounted inside.

Another car is the upcoming ute ford was designing. Here's some pics my sis took:

No they're driving all the Holden development cars used to test the North American model

You often see Pontiacs and Camaros around that area, owing to the Holden Proving Ground just being up the road at Lang Lang.

I would imagine it's still a mule. New platform, bitsa body panels... You can see that the flares have simply been tacked on...

Apparently, the flared wheel arch width is going to be the width of the new vehicle when it comes out. Bring it more into line with new Navara/Hilux.

Being pre-production it is probably duct tape that's holding it together!

I've often thought they actually use all those black bits as a deliberate wind-up to attract attention. I read about one manufacturer years ago road-testing a new model that looked radically different and they drove it around for days without any disguise without attracting a glance.

Point is car styles are so similar nowadays not many would notice. I think I'll go out and cover the Terri in badly fitting black bits with a couple of odd unexplained shapely lumps of wood underneath and go out and see if I can get my photo in Wheels.

that would be a good way to make money. A really good photoshopper could do that too.

Look I may be stupid, and probably am, but can someone tell me how placing black tape and covers can possibly disguise a car. Even I can see from the photos that have been posted what the car's shape is and what it is.

Please can someone explain this?

Bingo! As the release date comes closer there will be more 'spy pics' to get people's minds on the new model.

Each to their own.

I'd rather some info/pics on the long awaited T6 than yet another GT Falcon :

At least the T6 has global significance in the Ford world, even though it won't be made here.

You're a funny bugger raptor...LOL! Though i don't necessaritly disagree since the GT was probably there for the ride (or to trump up publicity.....how coincidental they also had one drive right past the proving ground fence JUST LIKE LAST TIME when they launched the FG. They just ring up the guy/caradvice and say...'look i can't gurantee it but if you go down to the western fence around the tall pine tree yada yada yada around 10am like on thursday....you MIGHT see something....just a hint etc.' Three days later looks what turns up on caradvice!

The T6 is a critical projet for Ford Aus and ford globally but they are taking their time with it. It will be a thorougly new car and apart from column stalks and maybe the guts of the diesel engines its all new so it is going to take some time (and money). That is more work for the aus engineers and a better car in the end.... Apart from the VW effort (amarok??) this will be the only truly modern new-chassis LCV on the market. The hilux won't know what hit it.....
