Default AU 99 Fairmont Locking problem

Hello,
My wife has a May 99 AU Fairmont. The problem is that it wont let me program in the key pad. I have Switch ignition from off position to accessories position, then
I pressed the re-mister 3 times within 5 sec. The doors should lock and unlock which puts it in training mode.. But nothing happens,, Can anyone help me out

they seem to answering your question on the locking issue in the thread that you found about the smart lock.

but have you replaced the battery in the remote?
