hey all,

i've changed my dash fascia to a silver fascia. the same colour as the Tickford ones that also lights up blue, but for the Forte dash. Now, apart from the speedo over reading by 5kph (check with GPS) when the car is turned to acc power the speedo needle 'dances' around from 0kph to the rear stop until the car is either started or turned off. anyone know why the needle would be doing this?

i'll post pics tonight and a vid of the needle in my build thread after work.

Don't always rely on GPS speedo's man they are not always accurate. As for the needle "dancing" around i rekon it must not be on properly for it to be doing that.

Same problem i had when i changed my facia, the needle is on properly but is on in the wrong spot, easyest way to fix this and get your speedo a little more accurate is to take the needle off, start the car with the dash plugged in, and then push the needle on at Zero km/h. That will eliminate the 'bounce'.

When putting dials back on you have to wind them around once- then when you start up they'll be back at 0 instead of dropping down?

Dreadly, you mean a full counter clockwise turn? might just follow NYTEYZ idea and just put it back on when the car is running

GPS is almost pinpoint accurate for speed. Way, way, way more accurate than some dodgy mechanical guess drive speedo like cars are fitted with.

GPS is not accurate for speed, it can not take into account terrain, hills and so on, it is also only accurate to 10metre's of distance as well, unless u use multiple ground units and then its highly accurate to 1/10ths of millimetre's.

Whilst most of that is true, a GPS is still far more accurate than the speedo in your car.
10m of distance is a tiny amount when travelling at 100kph, which is part of the equation to calculate speed. (Time is of course the other part).

Car speedos are rarely accurate, and can be as much as 10% out.

Is this needed on all the dials or just the speedo?

I'll be changing my fascia over soon so I'll probably end up with the same problem.

SOX is absolutely correct. I would be betting my money on the accuracy of the GPS over the speedo any day. At 100 Kph on my GPS my speedo is reading 109. If I drive by my speedo cars overtake me all the time.

I've also been told to wind them to the right (clockwise), start the car and after they have wound back to zero, fit the needles.

Na just fit em, then wind anti clockwise and you'll feel em click into place. And i think i did it on all of em. some may need to have the edges lifted slightly in spots for clearance. But once you start you'll know what i mean. Fitting and taking out the dash unit itself is harder lol

Do the needles just pull off?

I had a bit of a go at it when I changed to blue leds as the orange needles disappear at night. Didn't want to break them so I left them until I work out what to do about that.

get a fork,stick in under needle and pull upwards,there quite tricky hard things.

or you can rotate them anti clockwise while pulling them off. comes off in 5 turns. thats how I got mine off.

I always put a tissue under the fork though, so I don't mark the fascia.

hmmm some different coloured needles sounds alright, and some coloured bulbs too ;)
