Local council tip will normally have an oil collection point for you.

Our local mobil servo has a large bin like a smith family or vinnies clothing bin that you can dump plastic containers of oil in FREE. I think they get paid by a company for recycling it.

Is there some way to turn used motor oil into fuel? I thought that motor oil is just long chain hydrocarbons that can be distilled/broken down into various fuels.

In most areas there are fines for doing this sort of thing, because its pretty bad, and obviously not the brightest idea.

I take mine to the Whitehorse Council tip in Vermont. They chagre 35c a litre but no one monitors it. Usually if I'm taking a trailer load of rubbish they don't bother charging me anyway.

Recycle it at the tip or council waste disposal depot. It is picked up and recycled into other oil products, Valvoline XLD comes to mind. Better yet, if you have a neighbor you don't like................................

Thanks for all the help guys, I called up my local council this morning who gave me a few numbers to call where i could dispose the oil.
I ended up disposing it @ my local landfill who accept the oil for free and at the same time got rid of about 5 dead batteries and other junk that was lying around. Gutles thanks for your kind offer aswell. cheers. |

I just dig a hole behind the shed, and throw the filters in with the household garbage.... the blackberries are slowly dying year by year.
