But as Mr KNight drew in the Herald Sun this morning... "If you drink, then drive, you're a Magpie"

I was just reading the article that this pic came from... he blew a .144? Bad... but not as bad as the Belgian dude who blew a .851 after drinking 20L of beer.

........ 3 actually suspended, (2 Shaws & a Didak) BUT GET THIS! Not for being 3 times over the limit, smacking into cars but for lying. As far as c'wood thinks, lying is worse than drink driving!

Good on collingwood for taking action. they would have been suspended for a few matches for the DUI, but til the end of season is good for trying to cover it up/lie. Grimus - I'm not shaw (sic) which family you're referring to - i wasn't aware that the accident involving the shaws and didak resulted in someone's death.

wait? Someone got killed in that accident??? If that's true, Honest to god I did not hear about it AT ALL on the news that I've seen/heard today, that's poor form if this is the case.
Whats also unbelievable is how flippant the AFL and Collingwood seems to be about it. Didak was on his last chance last time he screwed up, SACK THE USELESS PIECE OF S#@$!!! And the AFL? How much CRAP did they threaten the Eagles with if they didn't sack Ben Cousins? Loss of draft picks, premiership points and fines. A bit of consistency would be nice don't you think? |

it is a bad thing that these guys decided to lie about the fact but i dont see the reason why other short falling's need to be dragged into this particular topic yes people driving while that intoxicated is not a good thing but why do people need to drag something that has no real relavence to this case and make a joke about it i dont think it is right cloke was charged and will /has lost his licence so why do we need to gripe about it if it was me or you do you think it would be such a big thing i dont think so so why does it need to be made into a big thing in this matter

Darren Millaine died post-season, and the culture within AFL clubs then was totally different, as many players were still part-time footballers. The era was different, as were the expectations of footballers back then compared to now.
Both Heath Shaw and Didak are professional footballers who are paid to represent the Collingwood Football Club in a respectable and professional manner (which is even harder to do at Collingwood :P). There is far more scrutiny of AFL players today and with that, comes a magnifying glass hovering over you should you make one mistake. Collingwood deserve all the negative publicity they get as they bully smaller clubs into getting their way, and for once, they have no answer. It's sad that they only really decided to act properly when it was realised that the players lied to everybody. Clubs have a responsibility to project the right image, and Collingwood have not been too severe on star players who break the law. Geelong and Steve Johnson was a ground-breaking case of in-house discipline, and look what happened last year. Collingwood's club culture has to change, because at the moment, something is wrong.

I think Collingwood decided to suspend the boys because of the mounting PR and also that these guys felt if they lied about events then everything would be sweet. I supose Collingwood had no option as it not only sends a bad message to the public but also to make sure that all players regardless of how good they are, realise they are are not above the law. I bet that Shaw and Didak thought they could get out of this one and I would say they their behaviour would not modify, but Collingwood suspending them is a great action by the club and I think it sends a clear message.
As a mad Collingwood supporter I would like to Thank Heath Shaw and Alan Didak for possibly costing the Pies a finals place...well done fellas.....you fools. |

didak may not have to change too much because there is a slight chance he will be chased by port adelaide. he should fit right in down there.

Collingwood for years have gone soft on their players.
The number of players who have been caught drink driving, and given nothing but a slap on the wrist is astounding. By memory, Collingwood has had more drink-drive charges than almost any other club in the past ten years, which is interesting, because they had the TAC as a sponsor at one stage. Clearly, Collingwood hasn't done enough to manage the problem or there would no longer be one.
