Default humble pie

hi everyone.

i was at a car show tonight that happens on the last friday of every month
at the humble pie in qld. the police were sitting at the gates with about 5 cars picking at every little thing on cars to give fines. why do they need to do this? i mean drink driving and things of that nature is fantastic. they need to get them off the road. but why do they have to pick on car enthusiasts? they could bring out as many laws and triple the amount of patrol cars but i feel that the only sollution is to open a facility locally where people can drive there cars... they will not kill the passion of motosport...

probably a relativlely pointless thread but it really annoyed me!

They were probably showing their presence due to the fact that a person driving a hot rod who was exiting the car park a few weeks ago decided to do a burnout and the end result was a very sad looking rod.

What kind of things were they defecting?

This happened a few years ago at the FPV open day, mainly noise defects in the mail rather than pulled over on the spot... The Police and EPA ultimately got a fair bit of bad PR from it as they were invited and requested to attend, Apparently they got a "please explain" from Ford. Needles to say an appology was given.

im not quite sure what they were defecting... but they have a little bay setup to stop quite alot of cars that went passed... they had their bonnets up and appeared to be standing outside of the car waiting.

Hi Ya,
I was the one that actually started the Humble Pie thing off, and it was all going very, very well.
I had a great liason with the Police, and all was well.

Then I had 2 things change, one was the fact that some clown decided he'd turn it into a swapmeet which changes the whole thing from a "FREE" get together to an event where money changes hands in the car park.
This in turn means a public liability issue!!!

Then my work situation changed considerably, and I just cannot make it every month.

Thus, I've not been for the last few months.

However the last one I went to, I was directing traffic etc etc and the younger the driver the less respect they have for people. I busted my *** to get this thing off the ground "BY MYSELF" until only one other bloke put his hand up to helpout "Denham" (I thank you for your help).

The Humble Pie was indeed a great thing, if only the punters (and I don't mean all of them) could save their right foot activities for else where it'd still be a good venue.
I read on another forum, where a RICE TWIT, said that he was asked to leave, so he put down a patch to show what he could do...
Real smart, everyone would have been thinking how, they shouldn't have kicked him out 'cause he could do a burnout. :

I've nothing to do with it now, and I'm kinda glad.

I am all for safe cars on our roads. But for police to target motorists at car shows, isn't good pr. Like on the way to Phillip Island, police target bike riders and book them for silly things like no adr on muffler etc. Summernats organisers are annoyed at how police target them. If police want to lower the road toll etc, they need to get motorists on side, not off side.

Im all for getting illegal and unroadworthy cars of the road some hunk of junks i see on s.a roads makes ya think why it hasn't fallen apart yet but to fine people because your exhaust is 4 decibels over is petty ive yet to hear somebody die because and exhaust gave them a heart attack all thought with old people...............

Police are incredibly lenient at Summernats. For the mass of cars, defects & drongo's, they could have a field day - but generally you need to be a dh to attract the trouble.

Hi Ya Again,
For the most part of the 1st few HUMBLE PIE's, there was MAXIMIUM support from the Police.
With one of them telling me to my face, that at least I had the brains to take it out of suburbia.

The Police were regulars there, and they heaped praise on the way it was run and organized but.....................

My job situation changed, and I couldn't put in the time to it that I used to...

It was also ZERO BOOZE, but hell I couldn't stop the pub opening up...

One Friday Night prior to the pub opening up, I was just about to politly ask a bloke to take his beer else where, when a REBEL Bikie stepped in 1st with

Oi, D--khead no booze!!! To which he took one look and tipped it out.
Don't anyone bad mouth the Bikies to me, as with anything there is good and bad in all groups.

I feel that the best way to get the Humble Pie back on track is to work WITH the Police and not against them. They were damn helpful to me when I started this off.

1) Be polite to the general punters instead of militant.
2) If so moron does a burnout, take a photo if you can and sendit/them to the Police (They will keep you identity quiet)
3) Step up to the plate and try and assist with the traffic thing, honestly the only help I ever recieved was from DENHAM in the Valiant ute with the scolop paint.

I gotta admit, I loved the fact that there was so many "FAMILIES" able to and have a squizz at all the cool cars for FREE.

If you wanna read anything from the past Humble Pie's as to my involvement go to http://www.qldstreetcar.com/forum and type in HUMBLE PIE.

At the Summernats itself, yes. Not at places like Marulan on the way to Summernats. The number of people sporting canaries for minor things when they pass through scrutineering (where I've worked for the past several years) is amazing. We get a lot more cars trailered/trucked down now.

i no what you mean mate, today my local car club (Velocity car club) had a charity cruise and we had 102 cars attend and raised over 2k but at one of the stops some idiotic local who just was looking did a huge burnout as he left which really reflects badly on us all who were on the cruise and behaved!
