The biggest problem with Land Cruisers and the Patrols to a degree is that they are made for a small market, which is predominantly the Arab Countries and Australia - they are not sold on the world market, so the cost of production has to worn by someone.

I reckon the Toyota product has always been overpriced when compared to the Nissan product.

blatant abuse is the ultimate test... thats why i lol about the 'insert x brand here' is just as good as toyota bandwagon... there is huge difference between going '4x4' once a month.... or copping a hiding 12hr shift after 12hr shift 24/7.........

The Prado is a pretty good vehicle...most of the mines out here have them, as well as the ones the railway uses here. As I said, they don't live the easiest of lives, but stand up to all the abuse very well, and haven't shown any major problems. One blew a gearbox, but it turned out that he'd been bogged and been sitting there revving the ring out of it, changing from reverse to forward and back again quickly...that'll kill any auto in short order...

So back to my point, its only overpriced if you cant afford it, blunt i know but if you have to whinge about the price you cant afford it.
Thread was started by you but by all means my post was directed at people complaining about the price.

Poorly designed cars is completely different and irrelevant in this thread.

No im not made of money at all i can assure you that.

You will find the big turbo diesel American pick ups deliver great fuel economy for what they are. And an F250 IS a truck... think Isuzu N series or Mitsi Canter competitor, it just so happens the American pick ups can seat the family/workers in comfort with decent pulling power, unlike that jap crap.
If you want the real deal ya can't look past the PSD F250/350 or Cummins Dodges. A crowd over here converts 100 series Land Cruisers to double cab/chassis, and is trying to flog them off for more than the same year F250/Ram double cab turbo diesel, no comparison, then again most sheep will mortgage their house to park an over priced and over rated Toyota in their garage.

If you don't like cruisers (duel cab or not) just say so then move on, no one has a problem with that, to stick around and insult those that do by comparing them to sheep just shows the lack of maturity in your comments....bro...

And before you come back with the old "I’m entitled to my opinion", an insult isn’t an opinion...bro...

Like 99% of the new Landcruisers I see are all in the city with not a spec of dirt on them, driving at like 2kmh over speed humps.

So what do you see in the western regions of NSW & QLD and the central regions of WA, NT & SA?

No idea, because I have no interest outside of where I live unless there is something there for me to benefit from.

Mum's about to find out, LOL.

But back to the discussion, I wonder how landcruiser would fare against SVT F150 Raptor?

i drive a 79 for work (gas industry) about 2000k per roster, makes my left leg num cause the driving position is crap, but noone makes a product that will survive like the toyotas do, thats really the end of the story, we tried nissans when the povo pack stopped and safety wanted air bags, they are all back in the city now with welded up chassis and bonnet catch latch thingos. Starter motors go at about 120000k on the v8 landcruisers. not my favorite vehicle but it will nearly always get u back to camp. I like the prado personally but not as rugged as the 79 or 200 povo and if ya think the toyota v8 is bad (i like it personally for a work car) try drivin the nissan wheez box in the bush..

80K.

79 seriues wagon..much cheaper.

You could get 2 hiluxes for the price of this 200 but the hiluxes would be skip material after 12 months.

The barn doors are great...our 100 series was a GXL with the upper and lower doors, and the lower door was a pain when trying to unload the back...you had to lean way over the open tailgate to get to the back.
The rental 100 series that we would occasionally get at work had the barn door type rear doors, and it was so much more convenient it wasn't funny. Much easier access to the cargo area.

Plus they are probably more reliable over the longer term, not having to rely on gas struts to keep them open like with the tailgate.

That's why, while the good 'ole F100 had been available in Australia forever, even in four wheel drive form, people preferred the known reliability of the two big hitters, the Patrol and the Landcruiser.
I think Toyota and Nissan have lost thier way a bit with the latest luxo-barges with V8-only, no-manual-option offerings, but at least Toyota still makes the 78 series which is probably the last of the true "basic large four wheel drives".

The only reason the old Land Cruisers were reliable is because they had nothing in them that could go wrong. The F-series is by no means unreliable, and Toyota has been having more than its fair share of reliability issues lately. Such overrated ordinary appliances.
