Having my mate sco selling for BMW in the past month has really been great. I have driven a 320i M-sport which might not have the go, but **** can it handle, and also had the pleasure of riding in the Diesel 5 series and also the 325i coupe. Every single car he has had out is nothing short of fantastic. I encourage anyone who has the chance to sample or even own any of the range to get behind the wheel before you judge the car, because once your in, you wont want to get out!

The Jag is a horm piece of machinery ... wonder if Ford will borrow from it ... I highly doubt it though.

Awesome mechanicals, but the wheels and the interior are putrid beyond all belief. The outfit that built this sound real dodge to me for some reason.

I used to LOOOOOOVE the look of the 1999 M5, but that has all changed with the disgusting mess that is the current M5. Mechanically, top notch, but visually: gimme the puke pail.

I think a lot of people are mistaking this M5 for something that you can buy direct from the dealer. It's an aftermarket job, and a lousy one at that. I'm sure RPD could come up with something much more stylish and factory looking!

The standard M5 does it more for me as it is... Although the current E60 took a little while to grow on me, but the design is certainly one step ahead than most other cars on the road (as are the rest of Bimmer's line-up).

The concept is great; 810hp and a top speed of 400km/h. Too bad the final product, is, well, a bit of a mess.

I'm no turbo expert, but I'm sure the turbos get just as hot if they were under the bonnet anyway....

BMW is number one!

The latest BMW ad where it shows a 3 series going around a race track and it starts with the first evolution of the 3 series right through to the current model makes me realize how good looking the old model was. Not a big fan of the Chris Bangle styling however the prototype M3 looks hot as hell

I think i agree with a lot of the setiment in reagards to the interior degisn. Just plain terrible job. Assuming that they put this m5 into production, along with the normal m5, i would buy the normal one. i would then just put a set of aftermarket turbos on then just so i can have the looks of the normal one and the performance of the special. Either way that is my thought of the day.

I was surprised the first time i saw it as well!! apparently alot of aftermarket euro tuners are doing this and(apparently) its not noticable(not more than any normal aftermarket turbo setup)

How much more lag is there with a rear mount turbo?
Wouldn't the exhaust gases be less effective with the turbo at the rear?

surprisingly not much. Remember that an exhaust is a sealed system. nothing is lost between the front of the car to the back except heat.(hence the heat wrap) The cooling of the exhaust gas isnt much when the cars exhaust is already warmed up. The only difference from a front mounted system is that the exhuast piping has to pressurise first... try it on your own car with your shoe... no long at all even at idle. As for the compressor side it flows nearly the same volume of air as the exhaust.
Lag is a function of turbine and housing design and material inertia... these days with modern design and technology lag is merely a distant memory.

You've mistaken boost threshold with lag. The boost threshold will be higher with the rear mount turbos (you have lost plenty of exhaust velocity by the end) but thats not the main problem. Lag will be massive on this setup, even on a WRX going from a top mount to a front mount has a big difference on lag. And when you first have to get the exhaust gases to the turbo then the air back into the engine bay there is plenty of lag that works it way in.

+1

Lag hardly exists anymore on modern cars. It is a leftover word from the days of devices like the TX3 Lazer and other eighties early adopters. It is now a very much misused word.

My dad took delivery of one of the new M6s a couple of weeks ago, I cannot imagine it with an extra 300hp - although i'd be more than happy to test drive it

the standard interior shits all over the croc leather... looks like a cheap handbag...

i wouldnt mind checking out the brabus in a little more detail tho... nice mods

I don't think the temps would get any worse, the turbos might even run cooler due to increased air flow and the engine bay heat would have to be better than conventionally mounted turbos. Pretty shitty looking plumbing overall though.

^^ And it has no bloody style whatsoever. A Capri with a 393 would hammer that piece of junk too. But an E55 AMG with 23 turbos would beat that again......
