End of Williamstown airport and the nearby Salt Ash bombing range are a great place to see FA18's in action for anyone around Port Stephens/Newcastle area.

Granted some people did it tough, mainly flooding from overloaded unmaintained (autumn leaves clogged) stormwater systems. Think you guys have had enough rain without seeing pics of ours.

I absolutely soaked up the tales of Len Beadell. That hearkens to his era.

I bought all the Len Beadell books I could find for my Dad, before he passed. I have a copy of our family tree on one side, where it mentions that Dad's dad was involved in the building of a 14 mile water race from Bowling Alley Point to gold mines at Nundle (NSW) in 1935, so I thought it might be in his blood.

My Dad really enjoyed Len's stories.

This years show was shithouse, even 2023 was streets ahead. That was the best of a rather sorry session, nothing worked that day, the lens just had no idea what AF meant, the F-22 didn't go up that day, the F-16 was muted.

Not anymore - because the F-18 Hornets that were based at Williamtown are all retired.
Note: there's no "s" in Williamtown

A variety of aircraft based at Williamtown still use Salt Ash Range, mostly the F-35 and the Hawk.
I spent my RAAF career working on the Hornets at Williamtown.

The spectator parking area at the end of the strip at RAAF Williamtown has been extended for the convenience of spies with huge cameras now.

The F35s are really only visible on landing and take-off, they are as loud as, and disappear really fast if you can eyesight follow them. Blink and they are gone.
The Salt Ash range does not get used as much now as they did with the Hornets.
During these school hols, Fighter World has been packed every time I drive past.

We viewed the airport, range and whole area from a totally different prospective.

This was our passport for 1999.

Sitting at the dealership, just after they fitted my 15 year old personalised plates to a new ride. Poor backlight compensation, no fill flash… terrible photo!
