So many brands and models selling EVs yet their share of the market is not growing

Ford in first place with Ranger, second spot for total sales.

Granted an isolated case, but check out the 1327 difference between 4x4 Ranger and Hilux. Imagine if Ford put more effort into 2WD, they could possibly extend that lead.

Yes and hopefully this is not a one off month, maybe Everest and Prado can continue
to sell at last month’s levels without interfering with each other - like Hilux and Ranger. Shark 6 had a big month, I wonder if any particular brands suffered losses as buyers switched, doesn’t seem to have affected Ranger or Hilux much and I don’t think RAV4 buyers are part of this but curious to know others take on where Shark 6 is drawing it buyers from…. |

If they are not able to remove the legislation, moving penalties to zero basically makes it toothless..
I wonder if that is a clever work around in case they have a hung parliament. Last edited by Captain Stubing; Yesterday at 08:33 PM. |

The BYD Shark sales are really interesting, I've seen a few around, that's an area of the sales to keep a watch on.
MG, BYD, GWM all top 10. I reckon the Tanks are a breath of fresh air in the market.

slightly off topic - US market not Aussie market
https://www.theepochtimes.com/busine...ariffs-5836385 Ford's gone to employee pricing for everyone on most models in the US to offset uncertainty from new tariffs. Also, story mentions 80% of what they sell in US is US-made, which insulates Ford a bit more from what's about to happen. Wonder if deals like that get to Oz - probably not!

When I bought my "real" Mustang last year, I asked my salesman how they were going with the Mach-E. I live in a rural town, so electric sales are very limited in this area, hence my interest.
My salesman had done the training to be the expert salesman for Mach-E, and even he couldn't put a positive spin on it. Let's be clear here, the car itself is VERY good and I quite like the styling, but there are some major sticking points hampering its success. 1. Price, which considering what people are prepared to pay for electric cars, or even a prestige car, you'd think this wouldn't matter. But direct comparisons with Tesla were not favorable for the Ford. 2. Image! Ford tried to get around this by calling it a Mustang......................but it's still a FORD, and that doesn't have the same snob factor that potential electric car owners want, and Tesla happens to deliver. 3. The Name! The salesman went on to tell me that many people would come into the showroom asking to look at the "4-door Mustang"................only to walk out when informed it was electric only. In this area, electric just isn't a viable solution yet..............at least in the customer's mind. 4. The Name! Yes, the name that Ford thought would be a winner has backfired. They tried to inject a sense of excitement into what is, let's be real here, an average mid-sized SUV. Its only point of difference being the electric powertrain. The idea of using such an evocative name on a boring SUV was ridiculous then, and now. Now, I hear that pricing on Mach-E is being discounted to stimulate sales, but that doesn't address points 2 - 4 above. But what would I know, Ford have an expert marketing team that clearly know what they are doing....................oh, wait....................

Are the Tanks meant to be the simple and rugged 4x4 at about 50K for the entry smaller one? Or are they complex things?

Canada’s Oakville is still being reconfigured to build Super Duty pickups in 2026 pity they weren’t building F150 and Super Duty, that would be perfect for Canadian sale. Ford USA had a good month in March, selling just under 70,000 F Series is always a good sign for profits, other vehicles are a bit hit and miss but they pail in comparison to F Series |

And yes I know they are designed to carry loads however so is every other ute and the Ranger ride levels are staggeringly superior it's dumbfounded me...at some point even couriers drive home/back so base empty....I even asked 2 couriers that delivered to work what they thought and both laughed when I mentioned the ride. One poor bugger never even test drove it before buying and said he wouldn't buy it again. If Ford just tried a bit harder with pricing in the 4x2 space they would kill the Hilux...in basic trim it is spartan, rough riding, course and 2 gens behind... Like I said, I've had it for 3 weeks now and until the end of next week. Driven it between work and home everyday, done some deliveries when our other van is busy, had loads as high as 700kg in the back tray and also towed with same 700Kg in the tray and another 1600Kg in a trailer. You can only be buying this on price because nothing about it would justify any other reason. |

The PX Ranger has an edge to the ride at times, but is still comfortable to live with. The ride difference between PK and PX is astronomical. Having also driven the Hilux, its not on the same page, or even in the same book as the Ranger. If it wasn't for the gutless engine, it would be my perfect daily. With Ford not offering the low ride anymore, I've contemplated looking at the equivalent Toyota, Mazda, and Isuzu, but..........................I feel like it would be a down-grade over my now 9-year-old PX MK II. It's funny, when I bought the PK in 2010, I did so because it was a Ford, not necessarily because it was the best in class...............actually far from it. In 2016, the PX MK II was THE best in segment, and this same vehicle 9-year later in 2025 is still better than the new stuff in Toyota, Mazda and Isuzu showrooms today. Quote:

If they can't get the Ranger to compete,
The Maverick would bury the 2x4 Hilux.....I know, I know ![]()
