Ford Focus 2012 Clutch Kit

Hi all, My car Ford Focus Auto is having some problem in transmission. I have been to a mechanic and he told that it is the clutch needs to be replaced. And he quoted me around $4000 to replace it.

I am looking for a suggestion for the same.

Which type of clutch kit fits in Ford Focus 2012?

Can I put used clutch kit of Fiesta or Falcon?

I am in Perth. Any good mechanic who can help with checking and replacing it?

It's an automatic so it's not a clutch kit as such - it's a clutch pack and there are several of them inside the transmission.

Assuming it is an LWII Focus then there are two different automatic transmissions it could have the 6DCT450 or the 6DCT250.

You can't swap it with any other model like the Falcon but once you've identified which transmission you have (and got a 2nd opinion about the cause) then you could look around for a 2nd hand replacement although the labour cost for the changeover might be high and a refurbished one is likely to cost ~$3,000 while a used one of unknown condition could be as little as $1.600.

I have already spent a lots of money on it to identify the problem. Every mechanic tells a different reason about the problem.

Let me start from the beginning, the first time it happened when car was parked bit on steep way, when I started ignition, it showed a very quick message on the dashboard screen something about Hill assist start, and right from there story starts, when I started driving, gear shifting was taking bit longer to shift to the next gear and it continued doing it so I took to a mechanic, he told that there may a problem in electric system, battery (battery got low before this problem started and I recharged my battery still problem is ongoing), the other transmission mechanic told that there is problem in the electric system (they guessed that its problem in sensor) because transmission does not know its position even though gas pedal pressed, then I took it to a electric mechanic to get a diagnosis, the result showed that 'TCM is suspect'. He said take it to a transmission mechanic and the transmission mechanic told that clutch is worn out and needs to replace it.

Honestly, I already spent a lots money on this car before and now I do not want to spend much money on this car, now I am looking for a least expensive way to fix it.

Your suggestions/answers would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly get a Ford dealership to scan for codes and give you a quote to repair. Make a decision from that quote weather it is worth fixing. Those transmissions are problematic and expensive to repair, it might be cheaper to cut your losses and find another car. IMO

I would definetly take it to a good Ford dealer as they have had alot of experience with these over the years and should be able to identify your issues easier than a mechanic not so proficient with these transmissions. Where are you located?

As for the clutch kit, they retail for around $1000 and $70 for the necessary seal kit, but can help getting the price down for you if need be (just PM me if you need additional help). You may need a few extra bits here and there but you wont know until the job is being done.

If its a TCM issue, your car is still under the component extended warranty which should cover that if its the problem - again another benefit of going to a Ford Dealer.
