Default Heater troubles

Hey Guys and Gals.

Can anyone help my friend out with some heater troubles in a EF fairmont. I have no heating, i am told it could be the lever, the ducts blow out air but it seems that the air is never being heated. A mechanic told me to check the lever but another one told me to check the inlet pipes for the heating to check for a blockage. has anyone had any troubles with this?

Also on my EF Fairmont i have the trouble of only having air from the heater\ac blow out of the front ducts, cannot change mode to divert air anywhere. Meaning when i select on climate control to demist nothing happens, which is a pain when the car fogs up and i have to wipe the windows with a rag.

Thanks for any help!

I would have suggested a blocked heater core, but if you can't change the vent settings, I'm guessing it would probably be the actual climate control unit.

You can try a diagnostic test on the climate control unit. It has a built in function that can determine when parts (eg. sensors) aren't functioning. Full details are on the fordmods site. http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=9

OK. On your friend's car, if it's not the heater core, it could just be the heater tap. I had no heat in my car last winter, and it ended up being both a blocked heater core, and a rusty jammed heater tap! My ambient temperature sensor was dodgy as well, but that didn't stop it heating.

Another point I forgot, is that your mate may have a busted thermostat. If the temperature gauge doesn't get out of the cold region, it'd most likely be the thermostat. The climate control doesn't start putting out heat until the car has warmed up, so if it never gets warm, it never puts out any heat.
