Another sweet mod, and another one that I'd like to do.

But I guess that these diffs/CV's aren't even as strong as a BA control blade setup which enough people are busting already. :(

Now put an AU crossmember in the front!

They are a weak link, I know the limo drivers with the AU Fairmonts hate them with a passion, and fyi alot of local cabs are going to BA wagons over the sedans to keep the conventional diff and spring set-up to get more than 100k out of the diff...

Its an interesting mod NZ, but for the extra weight and reliablity issues its one I'd stay away from myself.

They are only a crappy 2 pinion setup in the B-series.

And I know of quite a few unhappy XR6T, XR8 and FPV owners who keep killing these things in their simple driving habits.

OK Update.

Ned needed some suspension bits to get bushes pressed into so I got my backside into gear and pulled the diff out of my fairmont.

I'm confident now that its going to be a straight forward job fitting the IRS, heres what needs to be changed.

This is the front arm. You cant quite ses it in the pic but the AU arm has a wider bush than the EF. Looking at the next pic there is a bush welded to the rail on the right that if that was gone the AU arm would slide straight in. I could grind this out but I'm not too keen on that simply because it is most likely there to stop the blt rubbing and wearing. Instead I'll get the grinder and cut the AU bush down to fit. See the next pic

The EF tailshaft bolts up to the IRS flange which is good. Providing that it is the same length as the AU I wont need to change it.

You guys should know this type of thing is to be expected from me!

nice work karl.
considering the conversion has been done before, i'd imagine the tail shaft must be the same or something thats readily available.
a few ppl have used AU side skirts on eseries so i guess thats a good sign in reguards to the lenght issue.

Ok well I stuffed up that post. Someone edit the pic back up plese

All I need now is some AU shocks and to work out the brake lines, but from the position of the caliers it looks like the EF lines might just fit.
