Default Changing ECU, Smartshield??

G'day Guys,

Just swapped the ECU on my mates AU 220 to try and eliminate that from being the cause of a few idle issues etc.
The car is a 2001 AUII XR8 220kw and 5spd manual. The ECU catch code is 12QB.
The new ECU we got is also from a 2001 AUII XR8 220kw, 5spd manual and also the catch code is 12QB.

Now this afternoon we done the ECU swap and the car is now not starting and i believe it must be the Smartshield light flashing on the dash (Hand with a car inside it).

Can anybody confirm that it is the Smartshield light and shed some light on how this problem is overcome?
Im guessing there is a certain procedure to remove the light and enable the car to start.

Any help/info is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Jeff

Mate your going to have to get yourself a very good scan tool like the snap on one, and you are going to have to link the new ecu to the BEM, only way your going to get the other ECU to work in there.
Too many codes et, processes etc, bugger of a job.
Ford do this, but going by a recent experience they are hopeless and lazy.

The prices vary, dont they charge $100phr these days?
But they wont fit a second hand ECU to a car that they havent supplied, so they expect a car to be a runner before they will do anything.. best to go to a good mechanic, they will have the tools and do a better job.

you will need the ECU, BEM, ignition and keys (they are coded on smartshield) that match the setup. Then it should fire right up.

If you put key barrel ecu and bem in yourself 20min job if you just pull steering column out of wreckers (make sure you get keys and buttons for it)
Take it to ford they will charge you $93 to code it all up an $109 labor they charge this coz it takes 61 minutes to code so they tryed to tell me so get them to do something small will they wait only know as I just vct change into au2 fairmont finished last week an gonna go back in shed soon for turbo soon

If you change 1 part of the computer set, you need to change the rest or get it all linked again.
